Re: CX500 "Bastardwing" - 8th December - Video update
I've done some other stuff. I've had a play with the wiring and dummied up the acewell and temp gauge with all the wires tied together and taped up with electrical tape. I'll be connecting this properly once I'm sure it's all solid. Most things I can test now seem to work fine and a battery has been fitted to double check as well.
A fellow forum member in Melbourne was nice enough to turn up some preload spacers for me which arrived in the mail today. They're roughly 35mm (sound right?) so they'll add a decent amount of preload to the springs. That coupled with the 20 weight oil should pair nicely with the marzocchi shocks on the rear. These spacers are great as they fit into the cap and the springs which means (hopefully) it shouldn't be as much trouble to compress the springs.
Also picked up some fresh wire which is slightly more conductive that some of the hair-thin stuff I had here. The Stebel horns I've fitted sound like a wheezing grandma so hopefully better current solves that problem. Also have (finally) got something to measure fork oil with.
And the fairing has had one round of polishing and I've fitted the indicators. I'll be picking up new allen head screws for these this weekend along with some others on my list. My job tonight is to get that list together.
Re: CX500 "Bastardwing" - 19th Feb - 99.9% complete .....
I have been a busy boy... I promise...
Since I last posted the bike has run, the engine has failed, been rebuilt and has now been running on the road for around two weeks.
But it's not quite finished.
I just finished the striping on it today and the seat will be retrimmed tomorrow. There's a fascia to make to fit in the fairing to hide the wiring and the header pipes need to be rattle bombed in satin black. I'm also going to make some bag racks to help support the saddle bags when they're fully laden. But for all intents and purposes she is running and getting ridden daily just like I intended.
So here's some photos as a teaser for now. Keep in mind that she still needs a good polish....
Oh and I bought another CX500 and this one has paint, a cafe seat and a nice tank already so it'll be more for fun than a resto, but it's still another CX so you can't beat that!

Mistah Man! You are always inspiring at just the right time, thanks Steve. Sorry to hear of your travails but you certainly know that bike inside and out.

Ha Steve is the other guy from OZ with the CX.... His is orange though. I think poor Lee gots you guys confused a bit.
Cheers Paul, Bike looks good. I have one of these under the knife at the moment too. I like it so far and will be doing a few of the mods you have done as well.
