CX500 seat pan, metal vs fiberglass.

Trying to keep out of trouble
I have a build thread in the cafe section but thinking I would put this over here. I am building the seat pan for a 81 cx500 and am at the pattern stage. Is it ok to make this pan out of metal, form it with foam and have it covered with leather as the factory does?

This is where I am going with it, it will be taller as I wanted to retain the bracket.

Metal would work. Just don't use too thick sheet metal, cause it will be too heavy.

I have wooden covered by rhinolinings poliurethane.

DT809, let me know the progress as I'm in the same boat in regards to building a pan for my cx that fills up that annoying space though I will be removing the bracket as well as the possibility of chopping the rear end some.

What material is being used in the photo above?

It is just a cardboard pattern. The frame is cut just beyond the bracket but I wanted to retain the bracket for strength.
