So I love this seat, but not sure if it will work.. Any experience with other ppl ordering this and outfitting them to '76 honda cb550's? I have a 7.5" wide frame around the tank and ab an 8" wide tank, so if there was any way to alter this seat in shop to be 8" around the tank it might fit better? Or I don't know. What do you guys think? The seat is 6" wide at the tank from DCC.
put one on my 75 Honda CL360. It took some creativity but it looks nice. I didnt weld or cut anything and retained the option to put my original seat on if I need to.
I just picked up the non-ribbed version of that seat for my 78' cb550. I'm a little bit confused as to how I'm going to mount it, as the frame rails extend past the end...
Here was the quick mock up of how it'll sit. I'm assuming that your frame and mine are somewhat similar. Not sure yet, but the rear upswept loop might be the best option. I basically have no idea what I'm doing...But nonetheless this is "kinda" what yours might look like.
By the way. My bike is in shambles right now...no judgement...lol
Seeing as you do not want to cut your frame...and I cannot see under your seat...are you able to keep the stock hoop on the back?
I'm not sure how I feel about the lines between the front of the seat and the back of the tank. Could you take another pic of that area and a pic from above so we can see how much the from protrudes from the seat, please?
...and btw, my bike is more apart than that right now so don't worry about how it looks ;D
Yeah. I'm pretty sure you could keep the rear hump, but I'm guessing you would need to rig something up. In these pictures my CB550 is completely stock. No cuts done yet. Dime City Cycles has a no-cut seat mounting kit for like $65 that would probably do it. Although I'm not exactly sure how the setup works on that...The problem with ordering a seat is that its really difficult to tell what you'll have to do unless that seat is sitting on your bike. And even sometimes WITH the seat it can be a challenge...
Yeah I think it looks alright up near the tank even with it's 6" tank base. Will order mine soon after I get everything else sorted out. Thanks for the help! Will probably purchase the DIY 65$ mourning kit too.
You could also chop it an inch or two in the front like he did and have it 8" at the tank...http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=43369.90... I just dont think I would trust myself enough to do this, but if I had someone to reupholster it, I would give it a shot
I really like the look of that seat - did it fit over the stock "hoop" on the frame? I'm also curious if there is any way to attach it a tad lower so that the cowl sits closer to the rear fender? (the pic of that seat on the CB350 on DCC's page makes it look like the seat "flows" better with the rear fender).
I'd buy that seat in a heartbeat if it fit good with the fender so I could keep my bobbed rear fender & tail light on my cb550(pic below).
