Decal for Gas Tank

vibration

Been Around the Block
I haven't decided yet if I want to leave my newly painted all-one-color gas tank devoid of emblems/badges/decals, or if I should make a custom decal that might lend identity and character. If I do affix a decal, I don't want to do an off-the-shelf one...you know...Honda wings...that sort of thing. I'm thinking I might get a custom decal made up that says "Sancha" in a traditional spanish font. The question is...where do I go to get such a sticker made up? It needs to be clear between the letters so just the letters show in relief to the gas tank color.

We have a place here in town called rapid signs,... they make vinyl decals. They're heat resistant and adhere to just about any surface. So unless you're going to get a custom paint job, they're a good bet. I think they do metallic colors too.

Here's a link to their site: http://www.rapidsignsonline.com/

here's a sample of a tank they've done

Cool...thanks! I probably should have had it air brushed on before the clear coat, but I wasn't thinking ahead. I hope a surface decal doesn't detract from what is otherwise a really nice paint job.

Any sign making shop in your town can handle doing it. My sign maker gets a $15 minimum but you can get a full 14"x 12" filled with as much as you can fit on the sheet for that price.

Actually it will help. The clear coat will give it more UV protection not to mention sealing the decal from peeling or scratching. You can put multiple coats of clear and final sand it smooth to eliminate the lip transition of the decal.

Instead of having clear between the letters look into getting one of those decals that (excuse my ignorance) you peel the backing off, place the decal, and then peel off the front leaving no "clear" sticker in between. It's like the letters are floating on a 2 sided sticker. Any sign or vinyl place will know what you're talking about.

For those of you who may not be Hispanic...Sancha is slang for "the other woman". I've spent so much time on this CB500T project and have been skimming the grocery money for so long, that my wife accuses me (half-jokingly) of having a "Sancha". "Tell Sancha" she'll say, "I need you to put out the trash"...tell Sancha not to spend all our money"..."when you're through with Sancha just remember where your family lives"....and so on.

So I figure since this bike has been my Sancha, I might as well label her as such. I do intend to ride her hard when she's completed...which will be soon. I've got lots of images to post when the time is right.

La Amante, La Querida, La Chilla!!!!!!

Chilla : A derogatory Spanish slang term used to describe the mistress, or the side chick. "I'm his wife you're nothing but his chilla."

Pulled the trigger on the vinyl decal...might add a small set of black wings below the "Sancha"

Wings might work because the name looks too small by itself. So what did you end up paying for the vinyl?

Didn't get them on-line...went back and forth with local sign maker until it was right. So ended up paying $35 for the set up and proofs and $35 for the final product

Didn't think you would find what you wanted on line but your sign guy ripped you a new one. $35 each for those?

Ha...no...just a couple sets. I know, I know...ripped off, right? But I wanted to be sure everything was they way I wanted it...just the right font, the right shade of pink outline, the right amount of arch. It took several tries before they got what I wanted. So I don't begrudge their final bill. They had the skill and materials and the man-hours (or half hours) into it.
