It's cool Von. Never took it that way, and wasn't my intention in my reply. Was just sayin' that's all. BUT!!!! reading about Represto's dealings with the guy tells me this is not an isolated case of someone having a bad hair day, after someone shat on his Cap'n Crunch Sounds like a real KNOB!!!!!! He deserves proper feedback!

The feedback thing on ebay has always frustrated me. It's so inflated that even neutral feedback has become a scarlet letter of shame. And "Best Ebayer EVAR, Made Me Cream My Pants, A+++++++++" really means "whatever, it was like every other ebay sale." Really what's the point?

I thought the star thing was a good idea because it was supposed to be more anonymous and allow people to be honest without ruining someone's reputation. I had never heard that you could see individuals' star ratings. Has this changed recently? Sux.

You expect a little more for outside country but it's not a big deal.
'Handling charge' means you fill out customs declaration form
your at the post office and fill in customs declaration (couple of different types epending where it's going)
I've done a bunch of them sending stuff around the world .
Saying that, I probably won't be sending stuff to Canada again, it is a PITA for some weird reason?
Australia is easy but expensive (it's an awful long way from Florida ;D)

CrazyPJ, is it a pain in the ass sending with USPS or UPS/FedEx? Or both? USPS seems to be the only ones that don't charge a crazy $50 'brokerage' fee.
 
He did pay $19 in postage - he shipped it in an oversized box.

Like I say - I didn't care about the $19 in postage. I simply commented that it seemed high given my past experience with a clutch lever/cable purchase just a week earlier. The fact that my simple comment resulted in him getting all freaked out on me and then banning me AFTER I left positive feedback? Fuck him.

I agree it's hardly worth the time to discuss or post about, and I wouldn't have bothered if he hadn't taken that step to BAN me from his auctions. I don't plan on buying from him anyway, but I have no idea what that does to my otherwise perfect record with eBay. I'm going to report the situation to eBay so they know what kind of asshole he is. I don't think he can impose mandatory 5 star ratings with the penalty for not doing so being banned by him. It's about the dumbest business move you could make.

Oh, and I sent him the link to this thread alright, 5 seconds after I posted it.
 
I was just enquiring to the cost of postage as i thought that would've really added insult to injury. Thanks for the heads-up tim. I don't like arrogance and his behaviour was nothing short of it, which means i too won't deal with him if the opportunity arises. Contacting Ebay is very much a smart move. They may even be able to lift the business ban, showing this seller that it's not all about milk and cookies and a paycheck a week. Good luck and i hope your record at least stays intact.
 
Shipping and "handling" charges always riled me as well. I had to order some rear signal bolts for my goldwing. Found companies that sell them. One had them for $27 a pair, charging $7 to ship them. Another was charging $20 for the bolts, but $19 to ship them...these were both US companies, and I am also in the US, so no customs BS to deal with. WTF is the difference, that they charge such different prices for the SAME item standard domestic shipping?

I ended up ordering the $27 bolts, then a week later called them to find out where they were, only to learn that they were out of stock...lovely. You think they gave me any kind of refund for having to wait for an item that was clearly labelled "in stock" on their website? HA, right...greedy bastards. To make matters worse...the bolts don't even fit...still trying ot find a solution to that problem too.
 
In defense of handling charges - there are costs involved in selling besides postage itself.

Packing supplies can cost a few pennies to a couple of dollars, a little time is worth a couple of dimes, listing fees can be dollars in some cases, etc. Personally I figure those into the base price of an item and it is hard to imagine how these things could add up to more than a dollar or two, but a little wiggle room isn't unreasonable.

I had a guy once who was snippy with me because of the difference between 7.50 shipping and like 7.10 postage. To me that's a reasonable handling charge, especially if it's listed up front.

Just my two cents, I'll waive the handling fee this time.

I have no issues with handling fees either. His auction never made mention of these, even though he has specific info for international buyers, as I posted earlier.
 
I guess the cost of shipping and handling can vary by a large amount depending on the seller. A couple of weeks ago I bought a radiator for my 85 Maxim-X. As far as parts go it's much bigger than a clutch lever and I was only charged $27.75 USPS. The rad was from a seller in Portland Oregon, don't know how much geography had to do with it. I think that a brake lever probably could have made it through letter post though and been cheaper.

He's suggesting that my one instance of feedback without leaving 'stars' as part of the rating has impacted his overall rating. He has 240+ responses to his star feedback, making my 1 transaction less than 1/2 of 1% of his total.

So instead of 100% he can blame me for making him 99.6%
 
Oh, and he claims that the undisclosed $6 handling fee is charged at $2.25 per hour. So he took almost 3 hours to pack my brake lever? Wow. He must be slow, and only have 1 finger.
