Had a few small parts that sanding or wire wheeling was gonna be a bitch on so I looked for instructions on building a mini blaster. This is the $5-ish result.
It is simply two 3/8" nubs and a T connected to a threaded stub from a lamp. I temporarily used a Gatorade bottle for the hopper, which will be replaced now that the concept has been proven. I soldered the pistol grip blow gun to the first nub, but it can be unscrewed when I need the blower.
You have to cut the blower nozzle so it ends before the T to create a vacuum, but that's about it. I set my compressor at 80#- 100# and she'll strip anything. You can fill with most any media, and it works a peach with baking soda or blast sand.
Another option I'm considering is a ball valve to replace the blower so I can adjust the flow, and keep it constant. I'm gutting a small camping propane cylinder for the new hopper so I can solder/braze everything in place.
I also tried a narrow tip, but that created back pressure that stopped up the sand flow. If you started with larger diameter bits you might be able to use ceramic tips, but that was just overkill for my needs.
Great idea,
I was just thinking about purchasing one but could not justify the price to do a small job. I think I have everything I need lying around my shop to make this happen.
One question: How long does your threaded pipe/rod extend into your "hopper"?
