DIY Brat seat

So I've been thinking of making a brat seat for the Ace and started on a very budget project.

Its started with a trip to KMART where I saw a junior skateboard while shopping with my kid. Surprise surprise, it happened to be the same width as the frame rails of the Ace.

Juices flowing, I checked out the camping section and found a dual density camping mat.

Grand total = $19

Trucks and grip tape off, I lopped off one end. My son cried, I laughed. This is what I ended up with.

The camping mat didn't work out coz it was too soft so I'll save it for the top layer.

Thinking of a plan B, I stole some pieces off my sons play mat (again my son cried), doubled it up and stuck it to the skateboard with spray adhesive. Glued and rough trimmed, this is how it looks.

Upon test sitting I though "LOL its poop!!! This thing is pretty uncomfortable". Yes, It feels like sitting on double stacked thongs on a plank of wood.

I'll see how it goes with the camping mat as a top layer.

Checking out the mounting brackets on the standard seat, its simply a matter of transferring them to the skateboard seat and fixing with grub screws.

Now I need to buy some pleather or even better find an old sofa (brown preferably) waiting for kerb pick up LOL.

I'll keep posting as things get done. Feel free to laugh along with me...

I made a seat like that too but ditched it. The problem with a skateboard are the curved edges on the long side that make it uncomfortable...

I think you should carry on playing with the seat as it's getting there. Could you narrow the base a bit so that you can wrap padding around to take off sharpness on inside leg.
Some times using kids things for my bike has upset them. I found that if you turn up the radio it helps loads, or get them to help Mum in the garden. LOL

Keep up the good work.

I can see that hurting the thighs. Hit it with a power planer/hand plane and flatten out that concave, might help on that front.

Or if you feel like getting Frankenstein-ey....cut the tail off, flip the deck and fiberglass it back together so the sides are rounded down instead of up . Might be more work than it's worth but just a thought ha!

I would have wrapped the foam over the edges, extra 1/4"~1/2" width would make it a lot more comfortable.
I would also shape the front to match curve and angle of tank
