DO THE TON - Barber Vintage Festival - Alabama October 7-8-9 2011

Man talk about good news bad news. Brandon I hate to hear you may not make it but congrats on the new house. If you do make it Saturday we will have a cold one waiting on ya when you pull in.

I would like to thank the people who donated so far, I am now taking step one for the trip, Picking up the timing belts for the Nudiiewing. cost $91.39, I have to change them because the ones in the bike are at 5 years and many km's and if they faied on the trip I would be SOL! I will get them in the bike on the weekend. Then all I need is tires from Doug that will get installed in Pittsburgh, or at Kileys, depending on the time and tread condition of my D404's, they do wear like iron. Guys coming Friday to see my 450 and fingers crossed he takes it, I have it advertised for a fair price. If it sells I will be coming 100% if not, I am working on other means to fund along with the donations. Hell I gave up beer until the trip so I am really sacraficing. My sister wants me to visit after Barber so she is sending me a few bucks for gas too. And like I said before, any funds left over after the trip will be paid back or paid forward depending on what people who helped me out want. I hope to buy my tickets to barber next.

Cheers,

Any updates on the event? I've seen DCC posting on FB about prizes companies have donated.

Re: Ace Cafe, Cafe Racer TV, DO THE TON and Dime City Cycles Take OVER Barber!

Hey guys, yeah, several updates!

Bell Helmets is donating 3 Custom 500's with Bubble shields, Lossa Engineering just sent down some raw Clubmans and SWAG, Loaded Gun sent down some rear sets and we're throwing in a universal linkage kit, Dennis Kirk sent a $250 gift certificate and there's ton's more coming...

For the LIFE OF ME, I can't figure out why we don't have more entries in the show... This is our time to represent our bike style for everyone at Barber to see. I was honestly expecting more people from DTT to poney up and make drive and share in the event with all of us.

Kind of a bummer...

For those of you who were wondering as well, you will be able to take bikes out on Saturday for the Parade lap.

Hope we get more entries and if any of you can help by reposting the flier on your BLOGS or getting it to people who can it would be greatly appreciated. We're putting a lot into this event and it's for everyone to enjoy.

How many bikes have reistered so far if you don't mind me asking? There are a lot of beautiful machines here by many of our members. It would be a good thing if there was more participation.

Thanks for clearing that up with the Parade lap.

Re: Ace Cafe, Cafe Racer TV, DO THE TON and Dime City Cycles Take OVER Barber!

Only 12.....

Re: Ace Cafe, Cafe Racer TV, DO THE TON and Dime City Cycles Take OVER Barber!

I would think that every bike nominated for BOTM would be welcome in the show. I think we may have some guys that are overly modest, and undervalue the skill that go into their bikes.

Re: Ace Cafe, Cafe Racer TV, DO THE TON and Dime City Cycles Take OVER Barber!

Agreed... We just need people to register, we really want to have a good showing for "cafe racer" and it's not looking so hot right now.

Re: Ace Cafe, Cafe Racer TV, DO THE TON and Dime City Cycles Take OVER Barber!

what are you trying to get people to registar for?

Re: Ace Cafe, Cafe Racer TV, DO THE TON and Dime City Cycles Take OVER Barber!

People need to pre-register their cafe bikes to put into the cafe racer bike show were having on saturday. $10 and you get a shot at over $1,500.00 worth of killer stuff that's being donated by sponsors.

Re: Ace Cafe, Cafe Racer TV, DO THE TON and Dime City Cycles Take OVER Barber!

man i wish i was in town bud! i would be there for sure... ill be in FL (marco island) late nov and over xmas as well... should have a few bikes with us if we can scoot down by you be nice to finally meet ya!

Re: Ace Cafe, Cafe Racer TV, DO THE TON and Dime City Cycles Take OVER Barber!

Yeah, with only 12 entries, the odds of winning are high, but it kind of stinks to not have more bikes in the show. I mean. I would have guessed that at least 30 bikes would have registered by now. There are some really awesome bikes people are building on here, and I agree with the comment that a lot of people are overly modest. It's good to be modest, but I believe that if you're a DTT member and are attending this event, then you should help with this. Some of us donate to the cause and becoeme site supporters. Well this to me is another way to support this site. Let's not be takers only, I say give if you can.

Re: Ace Cafe, Cafe Racer TV, DO THE TON and Dime City Cycles Take OVER Barber!

Well put xulf13. I'm making the solo journey from Connecticut, 1117 miles each way. The weekend will cost me alot of $$. I'm going because its the first time, when can you redo the first time? You can't. I worked hard to ride the SOHC4 rally, nobody else in Connecticut stepped up. I met some really cool people and will always remember that I rode the first rally.

This is going to be epic. 12 or 112 bikes, its the first time we will be at Barber. DCC, DTT and CRTV have put forth an effort here that is huge. We need to show our support and be there. I mean how can you miss out on a chance to ride your own bike on Barber's race course?

Anyone who makes this event will not be disappointed, this is going to be amazing.

Re: Ace Cafe, Cafe Racer TV, DO THE TON and Dime City Cycles Take OVER Barber!

Well... If anyone else in the Dallas area is thinking about going, Replica and I will be driving down. I've been looking around for a cheap/dependable cargo van to move the scoots, but if anyone else wants to go down with us, we can probably work out some alternate means of travel.

Leaving either Thursday night or early Friday. Coming home Sunday afternoon.

Re: Ace Cafe, Cafe Racer TV, DO THE TON and Dime City Cycles Take OVER Barber!

Just curious, who among us have registered? I did thursday, so id lime to know which other from around here will be in the show. And guys who haven't registed yet: HURRY UP! we gotta show out for this!

I did, probably the first day. I don't care if I win anything. Just want to represent.

Well put, likewise here.

Re: Ace Cafe, Cafe Racer TV, DO THE TON and Dime City Cycles Take OVER Barber!

I admit I delayed doing it for the modesty reason. Sure I like my bike, but is it show worthy and am I nervous about having a gazillion people looking at it in the company of iconic people of the industry? Yup. Oh well, it is something I feel strongly enough about supporting the dtt and cafe community, so I gotta bite it and go for it!

Re: Ace Cafe, Cafe Racer TV, DO THE TON and Dime City Cycles Take OVER Barber!

Guys and gals, we need your bikes, no matter how 'show' ready you think they are or aren't. You'll see my XS650 there in all it's oil leaking greasy grimy glory. I don't keep it polished and while I might wipe it down a bit for the display, I'll be riding it into the show every morning and out at night.

The alloy tank is dull, dented, it leaks oil... and people love that.

We need piles and piles of bikes! More the better. Let people know that there is a vibrant and varied community out there (here)!

Last time we did a bike show here in Toronto, we were in the same hall as the museum bikes. They were all sitting on red carpet, shined out the wazoo. I saw guys take plastic wrap off their board-tracker tires (white tires, so I guess I understand :p). Our greasy grimy bikes were sitting mere feet from some of the most incredible bikes out there, including a huge collection of Vincents. Gunga Din was maybe 50 feet from my XS.

And one of our most popular bikes was a friends ratty XS650 with a GSXR inverted front end on it, seat covered in liquor bottle labels clearcoated (they were keeping it in one piece), and a flat tire from the burnout he did in the parking lot of the show. People were lined up to take pics with it.

"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me.
I lift my lamp beside the golden door."
