DO THE TON - Barber Vintage Festival - Alabama October 7-8-9 2011

DO THE TON - Alabama October 2011

I'm going to try and make it this year since I had to bail last year.

Re: DO THE TON - Alabama October 2011

If I do indeed trade my Sporty for a Buell tonight, I will probably ride said Buell down.

If I do not trade bikes, I will truck it down.

Re: DO THE TON - Alabama October 2011

I don't want to jinx myself and my bike but I have talked to the wife (got the tentative OK) and have some vacation time saved. So as long as I can get my bike rolling (anyone want to help???), me and Jordan JSJamboree will be trucking our bikes down!

Re: DO THE TON - Alabama October 2011

Sweet! Looking forward to it!

I've booked a room at the Comfort Suites in Pell City - about 30 mins to Barber. Anything closer is mostly sold out and the CS in Pell City is new (2009). Stayed there last year.

I'm still working on details from this end on who's coming down with me and if I fly solo I may end up on the ground at Kiley's or something - we'll see.

Parade Laps everybody! Last year we got up to 80MPH on the parade lap which was a blast and unexpected.

Re: DO THE TON - Alabama October 2011

where all did people stay last year? I plan to get there but if my bike isn't road worthy, I won't have anything to ride. Murphy's Law states that if I get a hotel room now, my bike won't be ready. If I don't get one, it will be.

Re: DO THE TON - Alabama October 2011

I got a room at the hilton that is .8 miles from barber :) buts its been booked now for about a month.

Oh yeah, im in the parade lap on saturday unless my bike is smoking pile of fail by then too.

Re: DO THE TON - Alabama October 2011

People tend to stay all over the place. I had meant to book a hotel months ago but kinda forgot. Nice thing about hotel bookings is you can cancel most up to the day before you arrive, so booking a year in advance is no big deal.

I'm also a bit of a hotel snob. I like newer hotels and don't mind the extra 20 minutes on the road, especially given I'll be riding the backroads of Alabama :) The 'commute' will be enjoyed.

Pretty big swap meet at the festival too, so make sure you can carry some stuff home or at least get it shipped back! UPS should have a booth there for packing/shipping. Probably make a mint.

Re: DO THE TON - Alabama October 2011

If people aren't opposed to camping, we are gonna be trying to set up a few spots locally again this year. My house will be open again as well as cyclefreaks yard. My place is less than 5 miles to the park so we will ride out daily to the festivities, and drink beer and eat nightly. Usually a bonfire, etc going on. I'll be off of work Thursday thru the next Tuesday so ill be here to help anyone do anything ya need. All I ask is that you make it and you bring something with two wheels!!

Re: DO THE TON - Alabama October 2011

I will talk to Jordan and see if he wants to camp or hotel.

What day is everyone doing the parade lap?

Re: DO THE TON - Alabama October 2011

Jordan and I are good for camping. Will there be access to showers?

Yes indeed. 2 houses, mine and my buddy Jared's (CycleFreak), and if you stay at the grounds, all facilities are available, and they are NICE too!

We may have a DTT R.V. set up there too with full facilities on the premises. If so, this year there will be a beer fridge on the property!!!

Re: DO THE TON - Alabama October 2011

Sweet!! Count me and Jordan (JSJamboree) in for camping.

We will hopefully have some home brew with us as well!!

Re: DO THE TON - Alabama October 2011

Mmmmmm, home brew....

So, I just took the 6-10 off of work. Looks like I will be riding out of Maryland on the 6th. I would love to meet up with some folks that are riding down, so we can convoy.

CW McCall Convoy

I will need a nice cold brew and some good company after this ride.

Re: DO THE TON - Alabama October 2011

We are planning to leave Friday morning from Indy and drive down with our bikes in a trailer (I know, I know..pussies).

Re: DO THE TON - Alabama October 2011

Cool, I booked the time and fingers crossed finances come together. Kiley I will be camping at your place. I have from the 5th - 12th but I will need minimum 2 days to do the 1800 miles one way to Kiley's place, I plan to leave the 5th and connect on the 6th with Beatnic if that's when he is leaving, and ride down with him and anyone else from the PA crew. May end up booking 1-2 more days to make it work if I have to, I have a few held back for it. I still need parts for the bike so I may end up selling off one bike to fix the other to get there.

Well the DTT Triangle crew is getting ready to make the trip. We'll start a headcount soon, but I think it will be about 6 or 8 of us so far.
