Our good friends at Dime City Cycles are the official sponsor of the DO THE TON Bike of the Month Contest!

Dime City Cycles are not only generous sponsors of the site, but they are good friends and incredible supporters of our community. They've been part of our group of friends since the earliest days of DO THE TON 10 years ago and both DTT and DCC have grown side by side over the years working to foster the garage-built community of enthusiasts.

In addition to gracing the masthead of DO THE TON for a month, Dime City Cycles will recognize the winner with:

  • A spot light on www.dimecitycycles.com
[*]Email announcement to their many fans and customers
[*]Announcement on Dime City Cycles social media profiles reaching thousands and thousands of fellow enthusiasts
[*]Winner receives a prize package from DCC (DCC swag + Gift Card!)

Here are the Nomination Rules:

1. Nominate one of our members' bikes for Bike of the Month - include up to 3 flattering pictures of the bike in question. This is an opportunity to recognize someone who's bike has inspired you.

Please don't nominate your own bike - make sure you have a well detailed build thread, post up in the Show n Shine area etc. and if enough people like your bike, someone will nominate it and maybe you'll see it as our banner in an upcoming month!

The Nomination must be accompanied by the member's User Name, a link to the thread where their bike is best described (Build thread, Show n Shine etc.) and a PHOTO of the bike in question.

2. Someone seconds the nomination (please only second one nomination)

3. Member should accept the nomination - If you're nominating a bike, make sure you're in contact with the owner, that they want the bike included and they accept the nomination. The Nominee should provide some back-story on the project, especially if there is a limited build thread.

4. Bike must be in running roadworthy condition - no basket cases. I know our bikes are never really 'finished' but it should be on the road/track/dirt and rideable.

5. If a bike has been nominated in the previous month but did not win, it should not be included in the current month's contest. Wait 3 months to allow other worthy nominations and then resubmit if you like.

6. Bikes that have won in prior contests should not be included unless they have been modified significantly.

We will accept nominations for a few days till we have a good selection to a limit of 3 bikes per contest.

A poll will be set up and voting will take place for a week or so depending on timing. Whoever ends the voting period with the most votes wins :D

I'd like to nominate timeless_ kris cb650. Maybe not everyone's cup o tea, but the paint alone is incredible.

Re: DO THE TON / DIME CITY CYCLES BIKE OF THE MONTH - NOVEMBER 2017 NOMINATIONS

Thanks folks, I'll happily accept the nomination. As far as the history of the bike goes it's a 1979 cb650 I picked up for $300 in non running condition a few years back, not knowing anything about cb650's (this is my first honda since my first dirtbike which was a 1980 xr80) and the pictures above are what it looked like last year after I got it on the road. It was originally intended to be a budget build but that's no longer the case as I was noticing a lot of smoke coming from the crank case breather and from the exhaust on decel. After confirming poor compression I rebuilt it myself and added some go-fast parts while everything was taken apart. Every bit of work done to this bike was done by myself, including the paint, wiring, fab, etc.. You can see more details at http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=71927.0;all

My favorite thing about this bike is that it's fully functional and legal with the exception of no front fender (yet) and looks totally stripped down. Even in person people tend to over look the turn signals & horn.

Future plans include megacycle cam, keihin CR carbs, C5 ignition and cycle x dohc charging system, and possibly a sport bike front end.

This is how the bike looks now:

Re: DO THE TON / DIME CITY CYCLES BIKE OF THE MONTH - NOVEMBER 2017 NOMINATIONS

Accepted! Thanks guys! I picked it up for $200 from under a tree. Had been sitting outside for 10 years! Gave it a nut and bolt clean up as close to original as I could. The paint is 100% original on the tanks and cover. The only parts replaced were tires, engine seals, rebore pistons, grips, front brake caliper and MC hoses, brake lines, battery and fluids. It even has the original seat cover.

Here are some beauty shots.

Thanks again! Good luck to all noms!

DO THE TON / DIME CITY CYCLES BIKE OF THE MONTH - NOVEMBER 2017 NOMINATIONS

Thank you both for the nomination!!! Very honored and i accept!

Quick baskstory on the bike. I got it about 3 years back from an rv park in the middle of arizona. Bike had been sitting in the sun for quite some time and was a roller with a motor sitting in it. Fired the back and then it sat until November of last year. I originally was going to just go through the top end and strip everything off of it and make it look good. When i was looking for inspiration, i came across old photos and information on Kaz Yoshima and his Z1 beater 400's he used to campaign.

From that I changed course and decided a wanted an alloy swingarm and full racetech suspension. Then after getting a swingarm and shocks in motion from Framecrafters, I thought that i can have this bike with a stock motor. Looking at how Kaz setup his 400's, i went to a 466 cc big bore, ligthened the crank, shot peened the rods, stage 2 ported head, webco 303 cam, bored stock carbs and beefed up the clutch.

The bike is "street legal" with a small high output Clearwater led headlight, and a flush mounted tail lite, and a flip down license plate. Every signal bracket and mounting tray is aluminum on the bike. I still have to weight the bike but it should be about 330lbs full of fluids. It's incredibly light, holds a line and rev's like crazy. Such a fun bike.

For all of the details; here is the build thread again. http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=74512.0
