DO THE TON Mama Tried V Oct 2014 - Barber Vintage Festival

Ok folks time to get serious :)

Looking for volunteers just like we've done for the last few years. Hit me with when you'd be able to help out on Fri/Sat/Sun.

Will do the same schedule again - morning/afternoon shifts.

I'm working out with the Ace Corner folks re what we can offer volunteers. Last year you will recall you got complimentary Ace Corner upgrades for the weekend.

Also - let me know what pop up canopies and DO THE TON banners might be floating around that could make their way to 'Bama.

PM Sent ;D

Ha - sorry Chris. You guys are pretty resourceful. We have faith in DTT's hustling abilities.

Man that sucks Rich, was looking forward to drinking a beer with you again.

Well, I'm working hard to make this year a go for me - nothing standing in my way!

I've got work until late Thursday, so will be flying into Birmingham that night. Thanks to the incredible kindness of Drew and his brother, it looks like my XS is going to make the trip!

Will be reaching out to the folks who have indicated they can help out for a few hours over the course of the weekend - with me not being there till Thurs night, I'll need some help with the setup which traditionally goes Thursday afternoon. I haven't finalized our setup this year - it will likely consist of whatever popup tents and banners we can scrounge up as per usual.

The DTT feather flag will be making the trip down with Drew and my XS (MASSIVE THANKS). Just a few short weeks away!

WOOHOOOooo!!!
I am looking forward to seeing (and hearing) the XS, and you too Tim. ;)

OK - met lots of y'all in 2012 thanks to the good hearts of locals in the 'Ham - and as a Texan, I also had the best BBQ of my life out there.....

So I will be driving out from Austin tx for the weekend and bringing my dog, Fred. No possums at this time as George sadly passed in June 2013.

As I don't post and only know some of ya from Facebook and the moto gp/barber 2012 event, is there a polite way to post a carpooling offer?I can do Dallas - better than Debbie- Houston, New Orleans, San Antonio, whatever detours along the way. I have an 8' bed on a 1ton which will be empty - less I find a project before then. And I can also trailer out a load for those that have the other means to do so in kindness.

I only ask for help with fuel expenses, no drugs, be willing to listen to country music at obnoxious volumes in 1/2 stereo (mono?), straight through driving - no motels. No pools. No pets. Cigarettes are ok. Just don't burn anything.

So help me pay for diesel fuel and come out. I can haul two others comfortably. 3 if you don't mind letting my dog have the window seat (he likes the wind in his ears and to stare at other drivers....). The dog also farts when he is excited. It is endearing eventually.

I figure it'll be $500-600 in diesel fuel depending on what the oil markets do in the next month

Where else is a good place to post this offer?.....

If I ride alone, that's cool. My mutt doesn't bitch about anything except stale coffee at Waffle House,

I moved from texas 2 years ago and frankly I too wish I was joining you - sounds like it would be a whole lot of fun despite no possums. I'll send a note out to folks I know that are still back in Austin.

That's what I thought (I'm terrible with names.....).

That would be a very interesting ride from Texas, no doubt. I thoroughly enjoyed chatting with Amanda a couple years ago.

Well too bad I am coming from the exact opposite direction as I would have gladly shared fuel and carpooled. I may be hitchhiking to get there this year. Sorry to hear about George, I kind of wanted to meet him after Jussy, Rich, and Dock talked about him.

George, forever immortalized. We will never forget.

Looking forward to seeing you again, Amanda!

I'm awful with names so my apologies. I admit happily that my time there was overwhelming despite being amazing. One thing that I've shared with others in explaining my time in Bama was the awesomeness that is found from those who made it. Especially at Kiley's - can't say I expected to feel half as welcome as I did and almost guilty when I left like skipping out of a family dinner on holiday.

Not an ego. Not a bad attitude. Not a fight (except for Catalano.... :)it was easily the most hospitable experience. Was it the people? The shared passion? The helpful and eager attitudes? Or just that banana pudding from PJ's mom?

Well please do spread the word - I am not picky as long as strangers can be vouched for to endure a long ride and dog farts.

Thanks for the condolences for George. He is actually still very cool. This time he is in the freezer, though. I'm awaiting to make a decision on how to have him immortalized through taxidermy. Stuff him? Just tan the hide? Have him spread like a bear rug and his mouth open? Any thoughts? He went pretty quick due to congestive heart failure
I had him on a medication for pain/arthritis which was caused by his bout of metabolic bone disease as a baby (which is why he was nonreleasable and a rehab animal - not a "pet"). The meds helped his pain but were also hard on his heart. The fine folks at Texas A&M (yea yea hook em') took him once I noticed the decline in health and problems breathing/moving. They accepted him the next day, placed him on oxygen (yes, possums are cared for well) and I saw his nose and toes "pink up" from the blood circulation and oxygen levels. He passed shortly afterwards because of the shock to his body being placed and removed from oxygen - my decision, but he had a "good death" and went in love and memory. Lil thing had a great life, though. Damn possum. I do miss him. So that's what happened to George. He is in the freezer. And I don't care who your football team is, A&M provided cost free care quickly and with more professionalism than I've experienced at vet clinics. Give them Aggies a break. 2 and a half years was a long time for a possum with MBD - usually 2-4 in captivity and 1-2 years in the wild.

Although - I do have an opportunity to resume rehab work with a lil fella named Warf - 1
Year old male who has been hand raised after being canninalized and losing his tail as a baby. Sadly I don't want to put my dog through that after a bit of a stressful first year together. BUT if a volunteer fire dept needs a firehouse possum, this would be the one to have! He loves all people and is really quite social. Get one of them rockers at
Cracker Barrel and widdle on some sticks with a possum in your lap and a sweet tea within reach. I can deliver ya know......hint hint hint or this fella Troy I know.... He has a soft spot for critters. Hint hint. (And Troy? You are amazing in all respects of trade, skill, kindness, passion for knowledge, and patience,

As for bikes, I would love to bring a project out with me. May be able to pick up a Rokon as I await word from a family friend as to it's whereabouts. If I don't, no big deal. I would reall like to bring the honda trail bike back with me and ready so I can gift it to a niece and two nephews in Iowa which I only see once a year. (How else would I secure a spot
as the cooler of two aunts? One they see almost daily? Or me!)

Any who - looking forward to seeing faces among so much more. This is how I am choosing to celebrate (mourn really...) turning 30.

Side note, drive by truckers are playing that weekend in Birmingham. Of course i am going.... Car pool option for anyone else who wants to enjoy the rock show.
