DOHC CB750 Rotor brushes

Been Around the Block
I don't know if anybody here has had the good fortune of trying to remove the screws that hold the rotor brushes down to the stator cover in a DOHC CB750 motor, but it's not fun. While I was attempting this, the screwdriver slipped and sheared off both brushes. Thankfully, I was working with a spare stator cover I had, so my bike is still running. But barely. The stator still needs to be replaced.

Anyhow, this spare came off of a motor I have lying around (picked it up for a case of beer) that I will eventually want to bore out and rebuild. When that time comes, I guess I'll need new brushes.

Where to find? And also, any suggestions on how to remove those stubborn screws? I've already tried slotting the heads, and I can't get vise clamps in there either.

That did help. I'll have to order some soon. As for the brushes, I finally got them off. I just had to make the slot deeper and wider so I could get a bigger driver in there. I was afraid that I'd pop the head off if I did that, but I got lucky. I guess that's what happens when you torque down steel bolts in an aluminum part and let it sit for 32 years. I've got some nice stainless M6x12 low-head socket head cap screws in there now.

I've ordered a ton of small things from HDL and Dillon Bros. for my project.
I'll warn you, it sometimes takes a couple of weeks for delivery, but they always show up.

You might want to put a dab of anti-seize on those machine screws.
Don't think they used that back in the day. :)

The easiest and quickest thing to do with screws that are rounded off from being too tight or seized is grab a drill bit about the size of the actually star, maybe a bit smaller, and grab your drill and put it in reverse. It works about 90% of the time and its gotten me out of a million binds when Im on a realll small time limit..
