Douchebag stole my helmet!!

Been Around the Block
On the way home from work today, I stopped at a convenience store that I frequent. I was only inside for 4 minutes at the most, and when I came out my helmet was gone!!! I didn't use the helmet lock, as I was just running in, but I sat it on my mirror. There was a police officer inside, so I went back in, and was told that there was really nothing that they could do about it. He gave me a card, and wrote my name and the incident in a notebook. He told me that I could file a report if I wanted to. The only reason that I could think of is for insurance purposes, but the damn deductable could buy me 3 or 4 helmets!!! DOUCHEBAG!!!! I hope whoever took it enjoys it......

yeah....i dont know whats sadder, the teef'n or the cop.

so the lesson is, if you can take it, theres nothing the law can do about it. nice.

people suck, I'm movin north. your prob not in my city but my city sucks aaaaaassssssssssssssssss

keep your eyes peeled on craigslist or ebay classifieds.

if it comes up on ebay classifieds i can help you.

what kind of helmet was it? the more info the better

I never leave my helmet alone in public. Carry or lock. Yes, people do suck and will steal anything.

Sucks to hear its been taken man, even more so if it was a ncie helmet. You *could* hit up the insurance and say you had a $1200 carbon-fibre Shoei or something...but I get the feeling thats not what you're after. Tellya what, havta be low to steal somones helmet.

I usually throw mine in the top box, or just carry inside. On the very odd occasion I'll leave kinda under the front wheel, but that'd be in a deserted parking lot in my sleepy home town.

Post up a picture of it if you can, or at least let us know the make and colour.

what the cop say about riding home lidless?

beat me to it... i was just about to ask.

if you find the guy, id take the helmet from him, then beat his head on the floor and show him the importance of a helmet. :D

Nah, Rocan, just kick him in the balls and tell him that he shoulda ripped off a cup, too.

I agree. More then likely whoever stole it didn't do it for riding purposes.

+1 more.
I have a "line of sight" rule... If I can't see it, it comes with me.

I'm sorry you got burned though. I've had things stolen from me before, and pray that one day I'll catch one in the act.

So I went ahead and filed a report. Got the same bullshit about them not being able to do anything about it. The store has video surveillance, but you wouldn't be able to see my bike as the camera is inside. The helmet was a Fulmer, model unknown, and it was a modular with a flip up chin. As far as riding home without a helmet, Kansas does not require you to wear one. I did go buy a new one, and I'll be damned if I leave it for some asshole to take.

Dude, someone lifted my lid back in the day. I had a plain Jane AGV full face. It was white with a couple of lines of red and blue graphics, pretty non-descript. I had a cold once and went to Wally World in the early AM to buy some OTC. I hooked my helmet to the lock and some dirtbag found a way to work the helmet loose. I was so pissed, but lesson learned. Now, I take my lid everywhere I frackin' go. It was a hassle at times when I was in school, but I took it to class nonetheless. Good thing was, I bought a cool-ass Bieffe replica which I still have and wear when I'm feeling nostalgic! 8)

I thought you canadians were pretty safe with that kind of stuff. i remember watching something or another that was showing how safe canada was that residents would leave their doors unlocked . granted theres thieves everywhere but i thought it was safer

It's true that Canadians are less likely to be injured or killed by a gun since not many of us own one, especially in the cities. But lesser crimes like theft are on par with the US just like any other big city. I once made the mistake of leaving my jacket bungeed to my bike for 5 minutes and it was gone when I got back. Smaller, rural or affluent areas would statistically have less petty theft just like America.

That was Bowling for Columbine.
