Our resident yarn spinner BeachComber suggested having DTT "buisness cards" that members could leave on bikes or hand out to folks who would be a benefit to our little world here.

Imagine the scene:

Youre at a car/bike show and you run across an amazing cafe or chopper and after talking a bit with the builder you realize he/she would be a great addition to the site. You tell them about DTT, but theres 100 peple standing around and the builder is having three different convos. Probobly wont remember the site. Well they would if ya handed them a neat little card with our logo and the site addy.

Different areas that have theyre own patches could customize the cards with that patch and so on.

Thoughts?

Im especially interested to hear what Tim has to say.

stupid idea, waste of money. ive been on a bunch of sites that have done this and it doesnt work that great. the problem is that (how it usually works) the cards are sent to you at no charge if you so request some and if you see a bike then you throw one on it or give one to the owner if you spark a convo with them. since the members dont pay for the cards most of the time they are abused and never find their way to where they should and not only that but the members that actually hand out the cards ive only seen a hand full of new members come from it.

if you decide to do it, ill take some cards, but it is a waste of money that you wont get a return on investment from.

Hahaha...

WORST IDEA EVER!!! But if you do it, Im in.

I like it, and really, its about $20 for a few hundred cards. Not much of an investment.

It seems to me that all we need is someone to design something and then host the image file.

Anybody who wants one can download it and print it themselves.

Yeah, it prolly wont be on card stock, but does that matter.

Just a half step up from the web address scrawled on a scrap of paper, but possibly more effective.

I doubt it would do any damage by itself. (all possible good is also highly debatable)

It seems to me that the conduct of us members is the single biggest thing to attract or repel folks to this place.

At the moment this is a well moderated and generally highly respectful and helpful forum/site. I very much hope it stays that way for a damn long time.

My $.02 worth, although likely worth far less with inflation...

LOL, im one of the few members that went in on it in my past experiences and i did hand the cards out. i just find that many people didnt care about the cards they recieved so they never made it to the hands they were intended to. i think out of the handful of members i saw join because of the cards 2 or three were because of a card i threw under a windshield wiper.

I can do a design if interested. I am a graphic designer and I would be willing to do high quality cards for people at cost (1000 for about $20). Let me know if there is interest and I will get a design out.

I belonged to a roadster club that did this. We all had about 25 cards, and if we felt a roadster would work well in the club, it was kind of an invite. It worked well, some thought it was stupid others thought brilliant. The business cards were free, and there are plenty of webprinters that will do them for free. The cards were not of cheap stock either.

We're also of a different breed, force. This could be a great idea. I'm in.
