Dull spots in metallic paint

Hey all. A few days ago I shot 3 layers of metallic racing green but i think i might have done it wrong. Some spots came out shiny and other parts are dull...
I haven't applied any clear yet.

Is this normal? I'm thinking about putting another coat of metallic paint and then the clear. Will this work to make it shiny?

The shine you want probably won't come with the color coats, it will come with the clear. Another coat of color may even up the shading and make it more uniform before the clear coat.

Ok, thanks for the reply. I'll give it a shot with another coat of metallic paint and clear coat over it

The shiny is likely where you laid down a little more paint. Go over it one more time with a good even coat, control how fast you move, distance, angle, etc and get it nice and even.
Then go over with the clear and the gloss will even out

Ok, just one more thing. I've read not to wet sand metallic paints to avoid messing up the flakes in the paint. so I'll just lay the extra layer on top of the existing layer.

But after laying down this extra coat of metallic paint and waiting for this coat to flash, can I put on 2 light coats of 1K clear and then let it cure, sand any imperfections out and finish the whole tank with a 2K clear, let it cure, wet sand and buff? All the paints are from the same manufacturor.

Thanks for the advise. It has helped me a lot already :)

You can do that or just wait until all your clear coats are done and sand and buff it to a shine from that point. Make sure you have a suitable clear thickness so as not to sand through it to the color coat.

This.

It will be tough to sand with only 2 coats of clear you'll end up sanding color and losing some of the metallic properties

So, I finished the additional layer of metallic green and two coats of clear. After lettong it dry it turned out great. I even got to do the striping today.
So all That's left is finishing with the 2k clear. That will have to wait untill sunday.
