dumb question, with hopefully easy answer

This could be used to replace the starter button....if you want to get REALLY old school.

Sorry....I'm a smartass....

All you really need is something that makes a momentary contact. A normal cheapy switch from the autoparts store wouldn't be the best because you would have to remeber to turn it off right away. The previous owner of my bike wired up some cheap ass switch in the side cover grommet, but at least it is spring loaded so it disengages as soon as I stop pushing on it. I guess they have that kind there too.

It just has to ground the wire that normally runs to your starter button.

but I could more than likely find something at Radio Shack, or from an online eletronics supplier...

for a total cost of probably a few bucks.

You can either get something that is functional for a couple bucks and hide it, or find something that looks good and mount it on your bars somewhere. Like I said, the previous owner of my bike put a little switch in the side cover grommet, just under the edge of the seat so you can't see it. However, I'm in the process of fixing the button on my hadlebars so that it does the job so I can put some side covers on.

It all depends on what you want. Just about any spring loaded button or switch will do.
