Early SOHC carb??

Anyone give me any good reasons why an earlier style (SOHC) set of carbs would not work on my 81 DOHC 750. Im looking to replace the CV's with a type of carb that is opened by throttle cable and not vacuum. Im not trying to break the bank of a set of carbs, ebay has some resonable carb banks from early 70's to the 77-78 style.

I have a '72 CB350 and I've seen a lot of people "upgrade" from the factory kehein carbs (vacuum) to aftermarket Mikuni (cable). I hear that many people do so because it increases throttle response and increased power.

The old Mikuni carbs are almost identical to the new versions today.

So, as long as the throat diameter is the same, you shouldn't have any problems. If they are different, you may need to get new carb manifolds and new filter pods (using stock filter box may/may not be an option) because of the size difference.

Don't forget to get new throttle cables designed for the Mikuni carbs and you may also need to find a way to link the enrichener/choke (older style used chokes, newer styles went to enricheners).

The spacing is different sohc vs dohc
Also you can not compare sizes CV vs RS.
So a xxmm CV does not equal the same size in round slides.

The only "easy" upgrade to a DOHC is a set of GSXR carbs. It's a well known conversion and appears to work, though I have never tried it personally.

1:4 cable on CB750 SUCKS BIG TIME
Why do you think later ones used single cable and a mounting plate?
If you want slide carbs, look for a set of smoothbore Mikuni or Kei-Hin CR carbs (they will probably be cheaper than 'sandcast' carbs)
