so i have a xs360 that starts and runs, but only if i kick start it. which is fine, i just want everything to work for now. so when i hit the starter button, it turns over very slow, not fast enough for it to start. so i disassembled the starter motor and the brushes look great and when i hook it up to a battery directly it seems to run really well. also keep in mind that the engine itself hasn't been run in 25-30 years and ive ran it now maybe a total of fifteen minutes. dont know if that will help but just trying to list the facts. any help would be greatly appreciated.

if you hook it up direct and it works...
then compare the voltage at the battery and at the stock starter connection..
im guessing ur getting lower voltage at the starter..
so then start working backwards to the battery until u find ur faulty connection..

maybe ur starter relay is wacked.
