heres the deal,

74 honda 360.

pod intake, (works like a champ)
shorty Exhaust( again tuned and champion)
chopped, bobbed, torched, mangled and all that other stuff.

I did the 4 radio shack rectifier, and that seemed to make the juice more gutsy, i think.

at idle, 11.7 volts at the battery, and a 1/2 throttle rev will down the voltage to 7.8ish and persistantly drop.

however when i unplug the regulator, it will idle at 14.7 volts, and pop up the 20.5v at half throttle.

so what kind of PITA do i have here?

i checked all the stator windings, and all get a super low resistance reading, and when i check the rectifier AC termainals i will be in the 20s, however when i hook the regulator up, it will instantly drop to the 10s...

any thoughts? i am really getting tired of charging this pig every other day to keep it on the road for 30 min of use...

Thanks guys.

Are you running the stock regulator?

Maybe a bad connection between the reg / rect ?

It's obviously over regulating.
did you re-mount regulator or is it still on original rubber mounts?
I read somewhere that if case gets grounded it destroys regulator.
I would get hold of a late model (1980's) CB400t rec/reg and wire it in

I did do a remount, and it was grounded via the case/frame.

will relocate to insulated areas and retest, other wise, i will look in to the combo unit from an 80s bike.

Thank you for the insight!!!

I relocated the regulator to a fully insulated area, screwd to the plastics. i fired up the animal and let it run up to temp while checking the volts with a meter.

it came up to what i need, and when i turn the lights on, it doesnt automatically kill the battery. i can even lower the idle so it doesnt sound like i am sitting at the stop sign doing 3k.

it is amazing, the engine feels stronger, and sounds like it is acutally doing a full burn in the cumbustion areas.

THANK YOU GUYS!!!!

ahh crap. i mean, congrats, krash. my regulator is bolted to a fiberglass plate, so apparently your solution isnt my solution.
