fairings

Hey:
I'm looking for some advice.

I have a CB750K4 and I'm feeling the need for a fairing to keep the wind from ripping my head off on the highway. I don't tour but I run the highway on my commute to work.

I'm looking at keeping a Cafe style, so no windjammers etc. My question is for you Cafe types. Do those small bra and 1/4 fairings actually do any good or are they largely for looks? I don't need to cut out the breeze entirely, just knock it back a notch or two. I picked up a small windscreen that I can cut down, but just how far can I go before it's entirely useless?

I've run both a small fly-screen when $$ was tight and now a BMW S Fairing... both do an admirable job.
Wouldn't ride 100+ for long without one

Here's pics of both...

The first one could have been shorter in my estimation...Basically I would keep cutting until your head is completely in the wind but your torsoe is out of it... I've had problems with heights set where the airstream catches me mid-face... way too much unpredictable buffeting.

I put a viper fairing on my little yamaha sr250. I had the handle bars upside down in the cafe style so i was leaning over quite a bit with my head above the windscreen. The fairing works good enough to keep all the wind away from your chest which is nice, but it redirects it past your helmet, which isn't too bad (it can be noisy if you have a cheap helmet like i do) I also noticed quite an increase in power (keep in mind my bike was only 250cc) with less air resistance. I haven't put the fairing on my cb650, and i don't think i ever will, because i dont like the look of it, but it does add some comfort while riding.

(cost me $90 brand new)
