fiberglass seat mounting

Been Around the Block
I am planning my fiberglass seat build and wondering how you guys are mounting them to the frame. I want to keep it pretty easy to take off and am having a hard time figuring out the best way to mount it.

Thanks!

two bolts through the center of the seat to a bracket welded to the frame...

or you can use the stock swinging mount if you find a way to attach it...

or you can use industrial grade velcro...

really the possibilities are endless...

just do what works for you ;)

I am currently building my first cafe seat. I have decided to build it right off the frame. I am molding the front section to the tank and using a factory mount for the rear. It shouldn't have any front to back or side to side movement and will not require any welding.

As suggested there are many methods that you could use and it is up to you which way you go.

If you post up a pic of your frame maybe someone can offer some further advice.

Cheers.

I mounted mine to the stock hinges. I'm not a welder so I made a bracket out of aluminum sheet and square pipe (1" x 1"). Rather than having to feel all the bike vibration, I separated it using pipe insulation.

Good stuff fellas, interesting to see other peoples setups. I made my seat from scratch with the intent that it wouldn't need anything other than some pipe insulation or bicycle inner-tube to damp it. Its secured by a form fitting shape all the way around the main frame, with the cowl at the rear hugging around the stock raised seat mount. The whole thing slips on and off pretty easily, just pull up from the rear and then from the front.

You can check it out in my Big Arse Build thread.

Cheers, and good luck - boingk

Thanks guys.

I like all the ideas. if any one else has a different method that is great too, the more the merrier. The velcro sounds interesting, i was thinking about that for attaching the cushion to the seat, but didn't really think it would work for the seat itself.

Check out the seat bracket that LilBeast made for the DTT XS650 build. If you have welding skills, that's the way to go.

Represto- I am having a hard time finding the mount from lil beast. I have tried the search engine, I guess I do not know how to use it good enough. Do you know where it is?

it really works great. just make sure you have a good bond between the sticky part of the velcro and the frame rails.

The bulletproof ideas all include welding. If i didnt have a welder (ok fine, two) i would use velcro

Seriously, aluminum is cheap and easy to work with. You can a shit load done with a hacksaw, files and some hardware.
