Fiberglass tank stuff...

alrighty guys... I just purchased a tracey tank/tail combo off the bay, and realize its old glass and ethanol will do its best to turn it into a pile of goo...

1. whos used the caswell tank sealers? good enough to line an old glass tank?

2. I may have to cut the center channel out in order to make it wider... how difficult is this? a fellow forum member is nearby to me and a glass expert, so I'd be getting some guidance on it, but don't really want to end up doing all the work and have it not work out...

which brings me to another point...

anyone use tank bladders? they are essentially just bags which hold your fuel, and then the tank itself is really just a cover/holds the form of the bag. anyone know where to get these? I've seen them for boats, but those are much larger in size. I'm thinking that If I have to cut out the center of the tank I might as well just cut out most of the bottom, run two tank bladders connected at the top to a filler hidden under the tanks screw on cap, and then connect them at the bottom.

actually, now that I think about it... I'm going to do exactly that if it doesnt fit. It would be lighter and I wouldn't have to worry about sealing issues...

anyway, opinions welcome.

I like it! I also have searched for bladders and have only found the boat bladers, so I am sure there are several people interested to know if other types are avlilable, that would work well in a motorcycle.

The Caswell liner is great stuff, man. Might be kind of a pain in the ass to slosh it around in a Tracy, but it'll protect it for sure. I have about 1000 miles on my glass tank w/Caswell. Still looks new inside and out.

hmmm.. i guess it all comes down to if it fits or not.

if it doesnt fit, the whole bottoms getting ripped out. I hate to "ruin" a tracy body by cutting it open, but itll shave weight, and allow me to do some SUPER trick stuff.

If you go the scooter tanks, why not just run two openings at the top and then use a Y connector in the fuel line. Then, with each side, put a valve in and then you also would have a "reserve" tank.

Rocan, whenever I got the plastic tank for my GR, the tunnel was too narrow for my frame. After rinsing the tank out repeatedly, I kept setting it onto a kerosene heater then pressing it over the backbone. Eventually it started to take the shape I needed.

And remember about the filler cap and petcocks. That was my biggest concern with doing a two in one type tank.

exactly what I'm thinking... I'll have to see when the tank comes in, but the scooter tanks will allow me to do some super trick stuff... Not going to say what, yet, but its going to be rad.
