Hey everybody, I Have a 76 yamaha dt250C sitting in my garage, got it running, Not well but it runs, I am looking for idea's after I get it running well. Thought turning it into a cafe racer for a bike would be a pretty good idea.

The bike didnt cost me a thing, it was/is my dad's old bike..he still has the title to it so it can still be registered for street legal use, even has the old license plate on it.

has the original turn signals which are great.

So any thoughts?

I would do a tracker if i'd change anything as that is a dirtbike friend. personally i'd probably just clean it up recover the seat and ride the crap out of it.

I would keep it as it is, maybe sell it for profit to get one, that is a better starting point for a racer.

im restoring a yamaha 250 myself

but my first step on my cb750 was to get it inspected and get a tag haha
(seriously though do that first before you pull off anything) then start modifying the look of the bike by taking off parts like the big metal fender sticking out the back and getting new LED lights that are smaller and can mount elsewhere.

then think about seat options and how you want the tail end to look you already have a perfect little loop tail on there so use it!

if you really want to you can get the air box out of there up jet your carbs and put pods on it

then handle bars... some don't feel as cool as they look with out rear sets.

Yeah , I would agree^

do a light restoration and ride it ! Find another pile to work on - always have at least one bike on the road- that's my rule-

I've got a DT3, the 1973 version of that bike. Just sell it, and get better bike for a cafe', or do a light resto and ride it.

There are obviously bajillions of these things out there, though, so don't feel too bad about doing a cafe build. Expect to do a lot of learning why it's not the ideal base, though. :D

I'm in the middle of a cafe build with a '75 DT250, myself. Watching this thread on principle alone, very cool!
