First post of my first bike.... not completed... yet ;)

81 CB 400t
I just bought a 1982 Honda CB 400T. I had my bro pick it up for me in Ottawa and he is gonna delivery to me in New Brunswick (thanks again big bro!!). So I have not touched it yet. It has 3900 orig kms!
My plans are simple for the start, change bars, mirrors, lights and pegs. Then tank and seat will go, once I have decided the look I want. I figure I need to ride it before I go on that journey.
This will be my first time modifying a bike, so have i bitten off more than I can chew? Would appreciate any advice you may have, or even a good ole “What the fuck were you thinkin!!” if its warranted of course.
Here are some pics I have the first two were sent to me by the original owner (thus the 2009 date tagged to photo).
Cheers!

That is perty! If you change out that stuff, maybe you good keep it put up somewhere. If it were me, I would stock resto it. But, it's not mine. It is yours to do with what you wish. :)

Thanks guys. I am stoked to have that bike in my yard. The OG owner treated her really good. I will update with more photos as soon as I can.

Thats beautiful! I would keep it as is! Maybe lower bars but other than that, shes a beauty!

Yup, clean her up and toss on some rearsets and clip ons. Thats it.

Clean little bike. Nice score. I'd be tempted top keep the mini Superbike look with a set of slightly lower superbike bars and I'd probably find a way to lower the headlamp and gauges.

I used to have one of those! Great bike! Quick, reliable (always a plus), and nice handling. A set of clip-ons with bar-end mirrors, maybe some rear-sets (if you can find them) and you'll have a winner. Other than that, I'd leave it alone.

any suggestions on where to find rear sets? Any ideas on a brand that wont break the bank but arent total crap either? lets just say I am some what decafeinated and would appreciate the advice.

Very nice bike man would do the same as everyone very small things ! The clip-ons and rearset would look very nice on it maybe just maybe throw a nice pipe on it but not much more !

Did you check right here on DTT? Go to the 'Forum' main page and scroll down to the 'rear-sets' and click on that. But I'll still check around for you. I'll be going to the Garage Company pretty soon and you never know what they have in their back room, but I'll certainly ask and get back to you.

Oh yeah, that is nearly exactly like my first bike. Same color, but mine was an 81. Great little bike. Clipons may be a bit radical. May just some low super sport bars or something.

Thanks Frito, I am going to check right now. If you hear of anything give me a shout. Thanks again.

Wow, its been way to long. So the I got my bike and have been picking away at it. Life seems to get in the way and time flys, no of which are to new to anyone on the site, I am sure.
What I have done so far....
I ordered clubmans....which are still on back order...grrrr.
I received my bar end mirrors and installed them, only to have my excitement brought back to reality by my 12 yr old when he reminded me that I will have to reinstall the mirrors when I get my new bars... lil smartass, where was he 20 mins before!!!

The chrome on the bike is not so great, its quite pitted and overall crappy on some items. So I bought some grinding wheels for my drill, some sand paper, primer and paint. I removed the chrome ring around the headlamp with the idea that I will try and paint it and if it turns out I will continue. Well after prepping and painting, removing the new paint omg like 3 times, then buying new paint I have success. I am not 100% happy but it will do. The humid weather here has not done right by my painting. So I am going to continue painting bit by bit.

I removed the front fender last night and had a zen moment of "yes I am on the right path". I will post post pics tonight as long as the rain holds off. New house and my garage is my back yard at the moment.
