First time project CB400f Super Sport 1975

pretty bummed to hear this... the 400f is a super smooth runner with a proper 4-1 exhaust and airbox
I know I'll have my work cut out for me tuning those carbs for that setup, but I will give it a go. She wasn't running right with the aftermarked exhaust already mounted so.... It's not like she's a restauration project so I don't mind mixing it up a bit!

Work in progress.
The fork seal\rubber was all cracked so I decided on replacing them with a oldschool rubberseal. Had to drop the forks, but it was a pretty straight forward job.

Have bought both of the handlebar switches new. Right side is a replica and lef is original. Bought from David Silverparts. Originally they are delivered without a cable passthrough for internal wiring in the handlebar. I didn't want to go through the hassle of drilling and pulling cables for only 2 inches inside the bars so I drilled a hole in the bottom of the switches.
OEM:

Drilled:

Did most of the rear wiring as well. Removed the old regulator and cut the mounts. Mounted the Regulator\rectifier combo unit where the old regulator had been.

The tank I had glassblasted was a mess! The PO had done a great job with the filler.......I regret not just sanding it down..well well...because of the outcome I decided to keep the tank in bare metall and go with a rat look on it. Maybe put some por-15 on it to keep the rust away.

with seat and tank

Hate to rain on your parade but those Chinese KYB knock off shocks are basically junk. They are made for a bike weighing about 250lbs and have been known to break off at the lower mount. You didn't really think you could get a quality pair of shocks for under $100 did you? That is one area where you should not skimp on money, get a quality shock and have a much better handling bike.

I just noticed you took Koni's off and replaced with these? Whats wrong with you?

Haha o1marc....If there is one thing I know it's that you get what you pay for! So I have arranged no parade for these shocks. I have no expectations for them what so ever. That being said if you have taken your time to read the thread you would have seen that the Konis need a rebuild and I have been trying to source the parts from Ikon. In the meantime the Chinese shocks will stay on.
So go in peace my friend and I can assure you there is nothing wrong with me.....

I did read that they needed a rebuild but then later saw they were replaced with that garbage. I was hoping it was not instead of rebuilding the Koni's. I would definitely go the rebuild route on the Koni's. Just be careful riding aggressively with those shocks, there has been more than a few reports of them breaking the lower mount off.

They will be getting the rebuild and they will be put back on. They way there was not as easy as I thought that's all. Just don't like being told that there is something wrong with me(I know several things that is wrong, but that is another story :) ).. so insted you could ask what my plan for the Konis were. ::)
I am the self declared master of google so I know all about the rfy shocks and the reports.

Sorry, I thought I put a smiley after that statement. I am glad to see that you have mastered Google as have I. Something that many here and on other forums can't seem to get. Every single question posed here can be asked at Google and the answer is right there, but they want us to do the leg work and research to answer the questiion for their lazy arses. I was hoping your plan was to keep the Chinese knock offs and send the Koni's to me ;D

No worries :)
Haha every possible subject have been discussed before on the "interstate" and google knows all about it! When I get enough money for the Öhlins I'll send you the Koni's ;)
I have ordered a can of Duarcoat Clear matte that I will apply to the tank. A real good prep and 3 coats hopefully will keep it from rusting...

I'll take you up on that offer, I'll put them on my Cb400f in place of the worn out stock shocks:

Long time no hear......... :p
Man is it exhausting having 2 kids!!
Anyhow..
Got the sidecovers primed and painted With Plastidip flat black. Came out great:

These are the decals I got custom made for the sidecovers:

I Also got around to laying on the DuraCoat flat clearcoat on the tank. Like I said the tank will be a brat\rat tank so I haven't paid any notice to details on it. The "Clear" looks great, but was hard to work With. Did get runs very easy! That small container let me lay 7 coats of Clear...... made my head spin at the end...
Before:

After:

Now to find out what kind of decals I'll use. HAve to be something that matches the tank. Thinking oldschool Honda or Pinup........ :)

Also rejetted the carbs to run pods and slashcut. Went With Slow jet #38: 99124-076-0380 and Main #85:

They will stick fine, you just cant take them off without pulling a bunch of the dip off unless you are some sort of witch doctor that can separate space and time.

I hate people like you! Whenever i've tried to pull a decal off I end up tearing the dip and pulling a bunch of it off at the same time hahaha

Awesome work so far mate 8) lovin the look of the tank decals gonna finish it off real nice :p look forward to seing more of ya thread keep up the good work ( between kids n workshop) haha ;)

Thanks :) They sure do take alot of time......If only I could train a pack of wolfes to look after them every once in a while!
I found these decals that I like. Bought them so I can give several options a try.

Where did you get the ones in the second picture?

Looks good so far man. The Plastidip came out real good. People don't realize that it can. Just gotta take your time and spray it down nice and thick.
