Fitting a second gen 750/900/1100F tail to make a clubman/flat track seat

If you're doing a clubman or the like and your bike has a steel seat pan you can make a nice looking Honda RS750 type seat/tail for it. I did it for my SR500 street tracker project.

I made it for my SR 500 using a second generation CB750F tail. i simply slotted the original seat base near the back and fitted a steel panel cut to the shape of and drilled to fit the tail then had the plate TIG welded into place. The recess in the edges allow for the upholstry so that wasn't any issue. After it was welded I cut off the excess material, leaving the stock mount plates from the SR in place so it is a pure bolt on. Then off to the upholsterer. My only error was cutting and grinding the various mounts for the tail light nacel off the tail. I could have used them to mount up some LED tail lights and a plate holder.

Here's a shot of it on my SR.

If you have an SR500 and would like that look without the work I am interested in selling the one here in the picture. The upholstry is virtually perfect, not even farted on... I changed my mind after doing it. I'm going to a fender and cobra head Ossa DMR style flat track seat on the back rather than a tail section.

Looks pretty slick. You race it at all?

No racing with it. It was pretty much a stock SR up until a few years back. Now a cam (dirt track grind I think, not too hot), 9:1 528cc piston, 36 or 38 Mikuni (never measured it), and our one off pipe. My intent is both street and possibly some winter ice duty here in Ohio. I just decided I wanted a rear fender with a seat instead of the tail.
