Flasher relay and Leds

Been Around the Block
Hi guys, for my signal lights im using a pair of LED that already have a resistor intalled in the housing, for the relay do i need an specific led one or would any flasher relay would work? Any recomendations? Thanks

The resistor is probably there to make the LEDs compatible with the 12V system. You are probably still going to need an electronic flasher.

Yep. There's a 3-wire flasher you can buy at most auto parts stores but I don't recall off the top of my head the model number.

The funny thing is, if you use resistors to make the flasher work, you are not getting the benefit of the LED's reduced electrical use. The resistors, as far as wattage, are the same as regular bulbs.

Get an electronic flasher, don't use resistors. Then you will have some spare watts to charge the battery.

the thing is i got the radioshack resisors that comes in a housing sealed with the resistor inside, to take hem out i would have to brake them, so any regular 3 ping flasher would work?

Im actually dealing with about the same thing right now, I have a W650 and installed the k&s bar end led flashers, I also have the k&s flasher relay they say to use, which is 3 prong with 3 wire on the harness clip and it also came with a seperate wire that can be a bolt down ground wire, my stock harness clip only uses two wires so I have to use the other ground. Without the k&s flasher both bar ends blink in unison at a fast pace, when I put on the k&s flasher and ground it they blink slower at the proper speed but still blink in unison, thats the only issue I have yet to work out. My bike is similar to a newer Bonnie. I dont mean to hijack the thread but I figure we have the same issue basically and would benefit from the same info. So any ideas on how I can get them to blink independantly?

figured out it was was flasher dummy light causing all signals to ground together, removed the bulb and everything works fine. also youll need an LED specific flasher, much easier and plug and play as opposed to getting caught up in resistors and doing a lot of splicing.
