I'm planning on welding a brace and taking the rear hoop out of my CB360. I'm on McMaster Carr and wondering what kind of tubing I need/is best? So many choices!

Thanks!

Have you cut your frame yet? If so, I would measure the wall thickness and diameter of the existing frame and then buy tubing that is very similar. I would also by some tubing whose OD matches your frames ID and you can use it as a sleeve to weld the hoop to.

Yup. Just match the orig measurements. If its not loadbearing, any mild steel in the proper thickness will work. Like mothgills said, you will want to "slug" the joints.

Can't weld aluminum with a normal mig. Plus it's kinda "soft" compared to steel

can I use Aluminum? It's cheaper :)

You are going to have a very hard time trying to weld aluminum to steel. Is this hoop going to be weight bearing?

What is the outside diameter (OD) of the existing frame tube? What is the inside diameter (ID) of the existing tube?

Post those up and I could try and help you source it.

The rear section unbolts on 360, you could cut it off close to shock mounts and insert the removable piece

Yeah, I know that PJ. I want to avoid the hoop. I'm gettin' a cross brace welded in hopefully this weekend.

Thanks for the info dudes!

Use the piece you took out to weld back in at an angle matching seat hump (if that's what you using?)
Saves looking for alternative material
