Front fender as a much needed brace?

How much is the front fender used as a fork brace on cb/cl450?

well, see how stiff it is without it. put the wheel between your legs and try to turn the handle bars and see how much flex there is in the setup. i get the feeling it will be quite a lot.

I ran my cb400 all summer without a fender or a brace. There was a bit of play and it was very obvious if the front tire is in a grove or crack and on those grated bridges over the river in the city. I'm going to chop my fender down as much as I can till it's just a brace, spray paint it black and bolt it on for next season. Didn't you used to have ash as your avitar? I'm bad with names and better with images but then everyone changes there avitars and confuses me. it took me a while to realise tim was still tim even though the picture changed.
