front tire clearence issues

Been Around the Block
alright guys, I ran into a problem this weekend with my front tire. i purchased a 100-90-18 for my front tire on my cb200. big i know, but I have a 110-90-18 on the back. my problem... it fits between the forks, but barely (and without the fender). how close to the forks is unsafe? it clears enough on the left side (brake side) but only clears about a centimeter or so on the right (speedomter cable side)... is it possible to put spacers in the front wheel (on the right) or will this effect the mechanical portion of my speedometer (making it not come in contact with the hub)? I need options... I would rather not have to buy a smaller tire. Also, I have heard several people on here say it's not safe to ride without the front fork brace (part of the fender). If I could get a little more clearence I think I can make the fender work... I'm just worried the tire may rub. THANKS in advance!

You can buy an actual fork brace which replaces the fender all together. As far as spacers go I have used them with no issues.

it's not that I don't want to use my front fender, I would rather. I planned on just chopping it up a bit. i guess i'll try my way with the spacers tonight or tomorrow when time permits. where on the right side of the axle is best? is any ole washer ok? i just wasn't sure if it would interfere with the speedometer mechanism? oh, how much is too much to space that front fork? i don't want it looking like Forest Gump's legs as a child.

I ran 100's in the front of my cb350 with about the same clearance that you mentioned for 2 years and I had no problems.
I just made sure that every season that my tire pressure was dead on. I just found that such a thick front tire made it harder to steer in slow speeds in the city.

is the tire gonna rub against the inner part of the fender? is that your issue?... if so, why not remove the fender put a fork brace on?.. Or like what did on my cb750, was cut the fender but leave the brace on the bike:..

I dont know on your bike, but on most cb's you can just drill out the rivits that hold the fender to the brace and then it just lifts off.. and all you are left with is the brace..(it would be better looking than what I did...

ya i can just drill out the rivets, but i would rather keep the fender if i can. atleast some of it (for water reasons, just incase). it clears now (without the fender) but with the fender it will be insanely close. i guess i'll experiement with it and post my findings...

if i did have to space the right side, what's the best way to go about doing so? just throw in a washer?

if anyone has some photos of their modded front fender brace and or fender, due to a larger front tire, that would be awesome. im going to attempt to play around with some options tonight, atleast until the point of frustration. haha. so pictures will give me some ideas in the right direction...

Here is mine. I had to use spacers since the forks I used was from a CB550 and the wheel had lots of slop. Keep in mind you will need to adjust your caliper bracket to match. Im also running a 110/90/19

sooo... fender wouln't work. I could only cram in one small washer between the fork and wheel, which gave me maybe a mm or two more of space on the right side. right now I don't even have the brace or anything on. some are saying it wouln't matter, some say otherwise. even if I drilled out the rivets and used the stock brace, I'm not sure it would fit, it seems that the tabs that attacth to the forks would need to be bent out more in order to clear the tire on the sides. :-\
