Garage Guy Chris's First Cafe 71' CB 450 DONE AND RUNNING!!!!!

Re: Garage Guy Chris's First Cafe 71' CB 450

Ok Now its cold out painting window is done, i just finished it running a 1500w heater in Ghetto Booth to cure the paint overnight........ just barely got it done, had a lot of cursing and frustration and "re-do's" But its all a learning process and its only the second time ive really used a HVLP gun....

Now Im basically all inside hiding out in the basement, so i dove into the engine, Im glad i did found a couple issues that would have grenaded the engine quick time had i not got in there and overhauled it.... Surprisingly after 40 years tolerances were still good, all it got was a light cleanup valve job, a honing, re-ring and a new cam chain. Also two new used tensioners as two were delaminated and ready to fail.

Now Back to the engine had to wait for a damn chain, and find STD. rings..... Lucked out there :) :) :)
Im also a cheap-ass and decided i didn't need to spend $$$ on a cam chain tool, so spent a couple hours in the garage and basement....

new cam chain a-la old chain

Holy crap has this been a journey what started out as a quickie build has turned into something i never expected. I continually look at the bike and say what if? I see so much potential in this old steel and aluminum hunk. Like a blank canvas to a painter. This project has really effected me in a way i never expected, I finally found a way to express my artistic side in a manner im capable of doing. I can't express how happy i am with the way its turning out. and to know i have done 99.5% of the work! The whole idea of this thing was to spend as little money as possible and take the time to learn it, im one of these people who just wants to try everything, once and if i can figure out the problem and build the solution to do so!

Re: Garage Guy Chris's First Cafe 71' CB 450 (massive update, 2 pages worth!)

I think you should cut off the top part of your rear-sets. They're off a CBR right? i say cut your rear-sets down to just the mounting triangle then either polish them or paint them black. Bike looks amazing though!!!

Bravo Chris. It is amazing to share your journey to find your artistic outlet. Crazy clean build.

+1.

I may have missed it, but where did the little bikini fairing come from?

Re: Garage Guy Chris's First Cafe 71' CB 450 (massive update, 2 pages worth!)

Great work so far, man. Nay, fantastic work.

Re: Garage Guy Chris's First Cafe 71' CB 450 (massive update, 2 pages worth!)

Yeah - nice work ;)

That bikini fairing doesn't fit IMO :(

Re: Garage Guy Chris's First Cafe 71' CB 450 (massive update, 2 pages worth!)

Fuck you and your beautiful welding!!!
LoL. I have just started learning how to weld on my build...and it looks like a dogs ass compared to your lovley lines.
I hate you.

Great work man. I love what you did with the battery box/electrical box. Unreal.

Re: Garage Guy Chris's First Cafe 71' CB 450 (massive update, 2 pages worth!)

Looks great. Love the work and attention to detail.

Ok so.... its finally done! the hardest and scariest part was getting it out of the basement and up the stairs beside the house, I screwed 2x10's all the way up the side to make ramps, im used to lugging 190lbs dirt bikes not 400lbs street bikes.

anyways she made the journey to the garage safely!

wow man such nice work. i fn love the spary booth! is that a HF HLV gun? how did you like it? my buddies shoot them all the time and rave about em

the guns are devilbiss starting line kit, the small "trim" gun is the perfect size for the bike work, its more of a medium gun! Ive used some cheapo guns and these worked a fair bit better than the cheapo's

If anyone has questions about the build id be happy to answer them...
