G'Day from Oz

G'Day there, have stumbled across this site some weeks ago and have decided I should finally step up and say Hi.
I'm new to Cafe Racer's and all they entail. My main ride is actually a 95 Fireblade that I have owned for a long time and have spent way too much time and money on to ever consider getting rid of. After looking more into the Cafe style I found I really like it. Add to the fact that I can find entertainment in just about anything with wheels and a motor. Then I remembered I had a project just waiting to start. An old 1980 Suzuki GSX250. It was actually my Brother in laws bike that he bought for $500 years ago to get his licence on. He trashed that bike until it would no longer start. That's when he gave up on it and it found it's way to my place some years ago. I got it to run, then stuck it down the side of the house outta the way and there it stayed for a few years. The more I looked round this fine site seeing what you guys and gals have been up to the more my grey matter started ticking. Anyway, in my view It's not a common base to start with and not overly correct but what the hell. I dragged it out and had a look. The frame send to lend itself to the theme, a nice straight backbone. Although it's a parallel twin, the engine could look the part. It has spoked wheels drum rear, disc front..close enough. The tank has a good shape and even has mild knee cut outs in it. Anyway, the project has started in earnest. more an exercise in doing something to prove my skills to myself before moving on to a more worthy recipient. I am a big Honda fan after all.. Looking forward to keeping in touch with all the good stuff you guys are up to
Cheers

Thanks! I have already taken some pics of progress so far. will attempt to post some again tomorrow when I'm not sat here at work. I did try but failed to get them to load

you said,"Anyway, in my view It's not a common base to start with and not overly correct"

mate you couldn't be more wrong, they are a perfect canditate for cafe'ing. As you say, nice tank, I think you can get cafe seats for those now pre made for you too. They are however a bit underpowered, if you get the chance pick up a 400 motor, they will bolt right in.
Plenty of options, if you got the balls put a IT465 motor in it, you will never need a front tyre:)

cheers......... chris at netbikes com au

cheers chris. thought about the 400 motor. we'll see how we go with the frame and rearsets first. I plan to get the bike rolling without an engine and then pull it down again for paint and motor. probably stick with the 250 initially. I know they are underpowered but in this case that isn't the issue for now. I have another bike for my power needs :) The idea of this project is to do it on a budget consisting of a little more than nothing! The bike was given to me and the only money I intend to spend is on raw materials and tools to enable me to do most everything myself and utilise as much stuff as I already have in my garage.
I'd really like to get some photo's up here of progress so far but they just won't load from my PC ( I resized them too and still nothing) Better to use a hosting site? I'm not much good at all this type of thing. maybe because I never got an activation email?? anyway, if and when I work out how, I'll start a thread. I just have a motor and bare frame that's had lots of unnecessary bits ground of it so far

This pic was gonna work or become an epic fail.
