Read the books, saw the first three movies. Just saw the most recent. Each time the story is told different things come to the surface. The books developed both characters well. The Swedish films tried to stay truer to the books but Bloomkvist dominated. The American film puts much more emphasis on Lisabeth.
Specifically about the bike- I thought it matched the character really well. The character’s online screen name is Wasp. This is the tattoo that she covers up on her neck at the end of the movie. She was called Wasp by her boxing coach because she was light, feisty and packed a sting in her punch. Not only does the café racer she rides have those characteristics, it also has the mechanical appearance of a wasp.
As small as she is, the 350 fits her well, and probably is pretty quick with her aboard. I love the clubman bars on an "enduro"-style bike- very European. I have all the movies on DVD from Sweden and I'll get the US versions as they come available; they're all appealing in their own ways. Some of the scenes in this new one made me cringe a little- when she kicks the thing she used on her "mentor" and the blood trail, for example.
They did do a good job of matching the bike to the character. In the original Sweedish movie she rides a modern bike. The cafe cb350 has the right mix of independence, anti establishment non conformance and originality fitting with the character.
In the orginal film, they stuck with the spirit of the book and gave her a bike that matched. Once again Hollywood felt that Americans wouldn't understand a story that sold millions, and thus screwed around with things.
I read the books and saw all of the original films and I'm afraid the "Americanized" version is gonna blow.
WellI just saw the american version, I'm 29 years old, and I got carded for a rated R movie! The bike was great, but I think the swedish version was better. I plan on reading the books sometime, and watching the other 2 movies. Thanx to the OP for this, very entertaining
Finally got around to seeing the US version tonight. Great movie, loved it. The 350 was sweet too, awesome sound to it. Thought it was the perfect bike, really suited her. Going to have to check out the Swedish version as well.
