My 1978 GL1000, Sportster mufflers, low handle bars, homemade gunfighter seat. Sounds great, very fast for a heavy bike.

Nice! Good job on a big bike. That seat rocks, did you do the upholstry too?

I am trying to imagine it with a set of clubmans, though

Very cool bike. Little big for my taste, but I can appreciate it.

There's a video on here somewhere of a guy knee draggin on a fully dressed GL.

Years ago in one of the bike magazines there was a photo of Ken Roberts and I think Eddie Lawson hanging off and dragging knees - TWO UP ON A VENTURE ROYALE! They got one out on a track and were thrashing, full leathers, on one of the early 80s Royale. I've looked for the picture on-line and never found it. Unfortunately it's like the one showing KR in a near full lock slide on his home short track aboard his V-Maz... I have no idea what magazine or year it was. Just back in the 80s I think.

Sweet! Bike looks great! Nice job.
I want to do a GL so bad I can taste it. Something racey but still can do lots of extended miles on it.

absolutely beautiful!

i cant imagine the kind of torque that thing has!

Yes it does have a lot of torque, you can light up the rear tire but due to the weight the front end does not get light.

Very nice! 8)

My brother (SeaGlider) has a 'Wing, and I'm trying to get him going on a Project like this! I think this will inspire him! ;D ;D

Brand new to this site, my first post. A GL thread, too.. nice.

I also have a Goldwing that's been de-chromed and de-land barged. It's a '77. Ground up restoration. Handles great, loves being flogged. Dump the Windjammer, bags and trunk and these are cool bikes to ride. Smooth, quiet, stealthy.

Nice! I like how ya can see the cam belt, gives it a industrial / mechanical look.

I always wondered how the early wings ran then thought to myself, you're pretty much straddling a Vdub motor with a pair of wheels & pulling the trigger... So I suppose they'd still be pretty quick!

Anybody weighed one of these beasts after stripping them down? You know what'd be cool? Have a custom pair of manifolds made to accept downdraft webers. Big 'ole carbs sticking out the motor ala Vmax! For that extra 'cansucksmallanimalsthroughengine' look!

they make a manifold to run a single carb and they make manifolds to run webers on it....been done plenty

Yep Check out Randak's cycles, he has all the go fast goodies for early (Gen 1-2 ) wings. These first gen wings were meant to be run nak'd and flogged hard. Only they are also good for long rides, except the range drops way down when you are hard on the throttle. If I am reasonable with the throttle I can get 250 KM on a tank, if not is can be as low as 160KM (100 miles) but it is so much fun winding them up. I got a 79 on loan until my father in law get's his license. I wish it was mine to keep because it would look like these ones. I at least got the windjammer off and trashed.

Cheers,

purdy Wings by the way.

SWEET! Here I thought I was gonna be the odd man out here. Just joined and building a '81 GL1100. Your 1K looks great! and that black out job by nvr2old is a nice touch.
Here is a pic of my build. Not the most recent but you get the idea...
