I want to start this thread since we will probably have a pretty decent sized group. And we all know we need some organizing skills.........
Personally, I'm off from October 10th to the 21st. I believe we will be using my truck to haul a trailer down. So who all is going to be in the caravan, what days are we leaving, who's riding / driving, etc?
On Google maps from my phone, it says it will take about 12.5 hours from Pittsburgh to Birmingham. But trips always take longer on a motorcycle. We would be traveling down I79 south thru West Virginia, and passing thru Knoxville along with Chattanooga.
We're leaving Sunday, going to Great Wolf Lodge in Concord, NC. Then arriving at Barber on Thursday afternoon. I'll have one or two motorcycles in tow.
I'll be there with bells on. Currently booked into the same hotel as last year (Hilton near Birmingham) as I expect DTT will end up with a booth again hopefully along with some of the same fine folks as last year
I'm crossing my fingers that I'll be coming down with my good friend Paul Dutra of Back Alley Motorcycles and we'll be haulin ass in his Chevy Astro with bikes in the back and possibly in tow if we have more people join in.
I'm kinda near PA So that counts. Driving from Toronto to Moody through PA. Probably arriving Thursday afternoon same as last year, departing Monday AM. Last year we stopped for the night just south of Lexington KY and were at Kiley's place mid afternoon Thursday. On the way back North we swung over to Maggies Valley to Wheels Through Time. Year before we stopped at Deals Gap for some riding. Would like to ride the Cherohala again, but last year the weather was chilly and up in the mountains it would have been very cold.
It's really great to see all the folks gearing up for Barber this Fall!! 8) It would be so cool to see so many DTT'ers down there! 8)
We're not really "near" PA, and we won't likely be rolling through there, but I'm stoked to see y'all down there!
There's a pretty good sized group heading down from Ontario. There are 3 in my group that will likely be rolling straight through to get down to Birmingham as soon as we can. We'll be dragging our bikes down on a trailer.
I'll never wish the summer away, but...
... maybe we should start a similar Ontario thread!? : ;D
Hey Rich, Depending on if I can make it. I will likley have Jill and William with me and if we have a hitch by then I may tow the bikes. We would be in to meeting you guys on the way as I79 is the route we took last year I think. It would be cool to be ablel to meet up and caravan and I could unload a bike and ride some while Jill Drives, although the freeway isn't the most exciting. I won't know until closer to Sept if it is possible. My 10 year anniversary is on the 12th so I have to work a day with Jill into the trip and towing the bike and getting to take her on a ride and have a dinner or something might just work. Need a BB sitter for Magoo but there will be lots of folks I think who could handle that.
Im down Rich. And, I really doubt that Ill ride the XS all the way. Theres no way my back could handle it, so Ill take turns driving with Brad if theres room on your trailer.
Sounds good so far gents. Here's what I'm hoping for the truck/trailer situation:
Depending what's in the bed, the RD could fit up there. Throw the XS on the trailer, and we could take turns parking another bike on the trailer (whoever wants a rest or breaks down). There will be some camping supplies and tools in the truck, but the more stuff in saddle bags on bikes, the better. And if we could pitch in for gas, I would greatly appreciate it.
"And if we could pitch in for gas, I would greatly appreciate it."
Youre not paying for all of us to ride down in YOUR new truck? What an asshole... Next you're going to tell me Ill have to buy my own food and beer in Alabama. Bullshit.
