Going to look at 81' CB750C

Been Around the Block
I'm going out tomorrow to check out an 81' CB750C. It runs, has a title, and the owner's only asking $900 obo. Sounds like a good deal to me.

I like the 70's CB's better but I haven't seen any in my area that are running for under $2000.

Anyone know anything I should look out for in these models? Anything specific to walk away from.

Timing chain slap, could be just a simple adjustment needed, could be something else, you'll hear it at idle if it's there. Other than that, just your usual fluids, chain, sprockets, ignition, plugs, etc. Also, I'm sure you know this, but check the wiring, cut wiring is no good after you've already paid.

Oh yea, It's no fun trying to figure out someone else's shotty wiring job. Thanks for the advice Jewbacca.

If it's sluggish keep in mind that the valve adjustment is kind of a pain in the ass on that motor and a lot of people just don't bother to do it.

$900 is decent if it's in okay shape, though. And if it comes with a spare motor let me know :)

Oh well, the guy stopped responding to my e-mails yesterday. I'd rather an SOHC 750 anyway. Back to scouring craigslist for a new project.

Sorry I couldn't help you with a motor Rich.

Me too. I may have to stop being such a wuss and break down the crankcase I have on a shelf.
