Just purchased the GoPro chest mount, aka the "chesty". Does anyone have any experience with this type of mount for the GoPro? How about any other suggestions for mounting the GoPro to a motorcycle? I mounted it on my dad's Norton a few days ago with the suction cup on the top of the tank. The long extension and shaky motor (everything is rubber mounted) made for a shaky video. What do you guys got? I am going to give the chesty a whirl tomorrow when its daylight. To be continued..
Haven't tried the chest mount, but for riding I think it wouldn't work well. Would make a great film of your tank
There is the handlebar mount to try, and of course lots of people use the helmet mounts. I want to try and get my camera more centrally mounted. I've seen the 3D kit used with 2 suction cup mounts which would be great but expensive. I have the 3D kit but only one camera and one suction mount (got the 3D kit on a whim at 1/2 price one day).
I filmed this with my Hero HD last October using the suction mount and an extra couple of extensions to bring the camera over to the middle as far as I could.
Thanks for taking the time to upload those files. I know how big they can get. That bike moves right along, eh? What is it? How do you like the Hero2? I've seen some videos on YouTube with the chest mount and it gives you a better view of the riders arms and him/her riding it. I'm going to give it a go tomorrow. I'll post the pics. Did you say you had the handlebar mount? They wanted 20 bucks for that shit. I cannot believe the prices. The chest mount was 45 beans. I wish i could make something myself, but the connections are really unique on the components.... Also, I get a lot of wind noise for some reason. Which case are you using? Is it the waterproof one of the open back one? I am using the open back one with the LCD pack right now.
It's my XS650 - been through a few changes between the 2 vids (new engine)
Like the Hero 2 - especially the plain english display and LED's on all sides to tell you its recording.
I don't have the handlebar mount - only have used the suction.
I used the open back for the vids - I have since got the Wifi Bacpac kit with remote - haven't set it up yet but am looking forward to it, especially the live-view app they've promised for Android and iOS.
Ok, so I took a video with the chest mount. I had to add some extensions to bring the camera angle up a little bit. But, i couldn't bring it up enough. It's not bad for a first attempt. Once I get it uploaded to YouTube then I will post a link.
Hey Tim, when you uploaded your videos to YouTube, did you compress them at all? It told me that my video was too long. Its approx. 2 GB and maybe 12 minutes long..
I've been a member for a while and have been 'granted' the ability to upload longer videos. Not sure how you get that.
Was perusing YouTube just now and found this - nice top speed run on an old CB but what was really interesting was the location of the GoPro suction mount.
I guess rev's didn't quite matter to this guy. But, alright I will have to figure something out. Perhaps I'll try to edit it and make the file smaller. Stay tuned.
