GPS Speedometer

i'm thinking purely hypothetical here, but would love to hear anybody else's input on the feasability of having a gps mounted to the triple tree for speed readings. i know it doesn't exactly fit the rocker style, but i'm looking for something new.

Well of course it would work, and you can easily do a 12v accessory line to your battery to power it - legality would depend on where you are. I'm pretty sure it would be fine as they stay lit up and can be made to always display speed for the most part.

That being said, the GPS unit being dependant on satellites for speed display might be the tipping point for a safety inspection. An easy and cheap alternative is a bicycle computer.

Scooters have terribly inaccurate speedometers so I at times use a Garmin Forerunner 201. Made for runners but works just fine for bikes. Displays and saves current speed, top speed, distance, average speed? and/or altitude depending on your settings. Plus you can download your data and overlay it onto Google Earth to see where you went...unnecessary but interesting.

be careful of a speedo that saves top .average speed etc, cause i am sure that in the event of an accident the police may look at it ,and if you have been speeding it would take some explaning
