Bit of a loaded question.
At the least, IMO, you should have one lead from the negative of the battery ground to the engine, then another off the engine ground to the frame. Most set-ups are just one lead to the engine and then they rely on the engine mounts to ground this to the frame (or vice versa on some bikes), but this is not as reliable as another lead to the frame.
