Ground Resistance

You'll get it. While you're at it, use a mercury switch from an old thermostat and connect it to 120db alarm. Soon as anyone uprights your bike off it's side stand, everyone will know it.

I like that Jay. Thanks for the positive reinforcement, too.

Funny, I diddle the taint and stare at your bike too...

I think as long as we don't do it at the same time we're cool. Besides, it can cause a problem on a zombie hunt if we are both actively 'appreciating' each others bike. Plus carpal tunnel is bad in my family.

Re: Ground Resistance: New Years Revolution!

Not really the most productive day, but it wasn't wasted. Gutted the stock loom, piled through wiring diagrams, and I think I have my custom drawing set. I just have to figure where the fuses need to go, add a couple of grounds, and I forgot the horn circuit.

That being said, I'm mostly just plagiarizing other diagrams. I don't fully understand a lot of what I drew. So take a look and tell me if I'm on the right track. Be easy though. I'm tough enough, but my ego is pretty fragile... :(

Re: Ground Resistance: New Years Revolution!

Woke up from a dead sleep at 3 am, and here I am staring at this diagram again.

Its gots fuses, horn, grounds, and both brake switches. Final draft? We'll find out in the morning when I start splicing. Well later in the morning, cuz its 6 am now.

Re: Ground Resistance: New Years Revolution!

Wiring diagrams are fun:

1 To be completely correct, all the lights need grounds, like the turn signal bulbs.
2 You have a three switch picture for the "main power switch", the ignition is only one switch.
3 You have to whole system on one fuse, then the components on individual fuses. This is not normally how they are designed. It should work, but it isn't standard
4. Solenoid and starter are self grounded to the block. You don't have to install grounds.

The second one posted is an amazing improvement over the first.

Good luck!

Re: Ground Resistance: Wiring Diagram Updated

Thanks for the input Xavier.

I left the grounds off the blinkers just out of laziness. On the fuses I'm working off a couple of diagrams that both had the fuses in line for the headlight and tail light, with a separate 30 amp inline on the main. I thought it was kinda hinky, but better safe than sorry thought I.

The three switches are my replacement strategy. I'm 'building' a combo lock out of three pole switches.

Thanks again, brother.

Re: Ground Resistance: Wiring Diagram Updated

That's really cool! I would put wire colors on it, though. It will make it easier in two or three years when you are trying to troubleshoot something and don't want to take the whole loom apart.

Re: Ground Resistance: Wiring Diagram Updated

Good idea for sure. I built it in photoshop, and intend to separate the circuits to individual layers. Then I can set it up in html so I can check out one circuit at a time. Probably overkill, but that's kind of my thing.

Re: Ground Resistance: Wiring Diagram Updated

Ya know, being about to start my own ground up rewire(ugh! I hate wiring) it occurs that someone talented in HTML could code up an interactive 'build yer own damn harness' site. Pick from a list of components ie; points/electronic ign., what lights you want, what circuits you want and have it generate that multi layer diagram.

Yeah....that'd be the shit....

Re: Ground Resistance: Wiring Diagram Updated

Just remember me when you're all rich and famous from your awesome new website...haha
Go to it man, that'd be a great resource!

Re: Ground Resistance: Wiring Diagram Updated

I was thinking that if you're gonna use those three switches that maybe they could all be on different parts of the bike, just to make things a little more difficult. Just don't post the locations or combinations on here ;)

Re: Ground Resistance: Wiring Diagram Updated

Soooooo... when did you say we were finishing this bike?

Re: Ground Resistance: Wiring Diagram Updated

Har Har Har...

I just came in from the garage from soldering the connections on my 3 switch array. I also have all the electro-bits in their new home on the battery box. Autozone Ford regulator wired, solid state bridge rectifier in, blade style fuse block modified to accommodate 2 separate circuits and mounted. I had to sort the placement of the main switch array, but I think I'm gold there. I also have no idea where to put the blinker and headlight switch...

After that I just have to run the lines, make a handful of connections, and figure out the issue with the headlight mounting. I'm getting there. She may not be legal and inspected by March, but she should be running. Thanks for looking out though! ;)

Re: Ground Resistance: Wiring Diagram Updated

Pff.. legal.... says the man etching Anarchy in to US Government property....

If she's not ready by march we're all coming out to throw it together.. intervention style.. and if need be, we will carry it to the front lines of the great battle of 2 wheeled machines in March... Cool Runnings style.

Re: Ground Resistance: Wiring Diagram Updated

You're the best, brother.

And the coins are legal 100%. The only applicable us law states that altered coinage will not be honored as US currency. The anarchy also falls under the 1st amendment pretty firmly too, unless you argued that we were creating our own coinage as an act of direct treason against the state. Might count as a preparatory offense for a coup. ;)

I did not know that.

Yeah.. they deal with those kinds of things pretty harshly, don't they? haha

Re: Ground Resistance: Wiring Diagram Updated

I think the coins you sent me are awesome, legal or not! I really digged the "high tech coin protector" too. Thanks again!
