Hagons VS RFY w/ rebuild

Rydog400f

Been Around the Block
I'm having trouble deciding. Am I even gonna feel the difference as a new street rider? I really like the look of the RFY's but also appreciate the build quality and history of the Hagons. I'm short and light ( 5'6" 140lbs) and will mainly be taking the 30 mile commute to work, with some sporty riding here and there. Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks!

Here's the link to the RFY rebuild. I think I would go with the 340mm, (with the 7 weight?) as the stock height on my 1977 cb400 four seems to be a little short in the rear.

You can rebuild RFYs any way you want, they'll never match the Hagons in quality or performance.

I have a set of RFYs on my CB125S. They're OK. I can't say I'd recommend them in their original form but the rebuild option might make them worth it. If I remember correctly a new set of Hagons is going to be around $200 (maybe more?), whereas the RFY+rebuild is going to be around $175 (~$100+$75+shipping to the shop). If you want to get out and ride I'd suggest the Hagons. If you want to wait to get the RFYs and have them rebuilt to save ~$25 then go for it.

Hagons
Pros:
  • Known to be good quality
  • Less futzing around
Cons:
  • ~$25 more expensive
RFYs
Pros:
  • ~$25 less than Hagons
Cons:
  • Chinese quality
  • Cheap internals
  • Wait time (shipping to you -> shipping to shop -> work -> back to you)
