Handlebar switch

I am looking to replace my left handlebar switch on my XT500, I just need headlight hi/lo, turn signals, and horn. I am debating between these two:

I like the price of the first one but I am wondering if I will get what I pay for. It also says the housing is aluminum which might be good. The second one looks a bit narrower which I like but the housing is plastic. Does anyone have any experience with either of these two switches? Are there any other good ones out there under $40-$50?

That doesn't look like the stock switch on my bike, maybe that is from an earlier model? In any case, I don't want to use the stock switch mainly because it grounds through the handlebar.

What year is your XT? That switch looks pretty much identical to all the ones I've seen (including my 80 model).

I suppose you could run an earth wire into it instead of grounding through the bars, but why don't you want to ground through the bars?

Mostly because the bars I am going to be using are painted black. Both my 80 and my 81 look the same and they are different than the one you posted.

Also, I should have mentioned that I am going to be building my own complete harness from scratch. I figured while I am at it I should get a new switch.

Lots of people have used those.
It's an okay switch, just all plastic.
Same as you'd find on most scooter and dirtbikes

I use the first one, haven't had any issues with it.

Thanks. I think I'll try the first one, it's only ten bucks so I won't be out much if it melts :)
