harley 350 aermacchi thumpin

so i have been dragging my ass on posting up pics on this bike and have a lot done so i am gonna hold off on posting some of them and hopefully i will be able to catch ip to myself and it not just be a photo dump . i picked this thing up from a guy in town that had planned on restoring it one day, but ended up hanging out in has garage for 15 years. the tank was completely rotted out of the bottom and the frame had a big ol' crack on one of the main tubes, so i didn't feel bad about cutting it up a bit. i picked up this old dunstall tank from a buddy a few years ago that looks like it is gonna fit on there and not look too silly big, gonna re lace an 18 to the font hub and chuck the 19 rim, build a high pipe out of stainless and having a buddy build an adjustable triple tree top.

Cool bike. I've always wanted to buy a Harley/Aermacchi and ride it to a local Harley bike night to see what people said.

yeah barnburner, i am planning on doing the same thing with this guy.. i have a friend making me some harley "1" logos that have Italian flags instead of american flags in them, should get a lot of flack for that also

had one of these ages ago. Had the hardest kick start of any bike ive ever had. It would kick back so hard it would dead my leg! But it makes a great sound thumping away! I'm in!!

Is that an AHRMA sound of singles sticker on the tank? Was the bike raced?

teddpage it sure is a sound of singles sticker. this bike wasn't raced, that tank was on a bike that is currently raced in ahrma and wera though, it was a little two long for the track so it got swapped out for a shorter tank

Booby, you build some fantastic bikes, but you must have an unlimited supply of cash for all these bikes!

thanks johnu, i wish i had an endless flow, i just have a very forgiving wife, no kids, and i am a real cheap ass. also helps i don't mind being seen in a shitty truck..

Looks like a great project. I had a 66 250 that I rode in college. Years later I raced two different 350s. One was road raced in the WERA vintage series and the other was an ice racer in a Sonic Weld frame...well you have to do something in the winter. My road race bike also had a cracked tube when I got it, must be a common ailment. I sleeved the tube and added some gussets and bracing to the frame. Seemed to do OK, didn't have any more breaks and I was racing on the old track at Nelson Ledges.

Very cool! I work for Harley and the owner of the shop I work for is all about some vintage bikes. We have fully restored VL, XR750, CR250 Sprint, K Model, FL Panhead and a little 125 all on display.

IMHO that original bike looked pretty cool but as your building a vintage race bike replica I cant complain.

thanks for the props, should be driving soon. that one in dc looks pretty good, crazy what the 350's and 250's can fetch when they are running and decent.
