Hello from Savannah CB160 rider

Been Around the Block
Hey there,
I picked up a nice 1967 cb160 today and was searching around the web and came across this place. The bike is really clean with less than 5000 miles on the ODO. I put about 40 miles on it today and it's a lot of fun for being a pip squeak.
I'll be posting more here as I get more involved with the bike.

One thing I know I need is some sidecovers. It looks like thy are hard to find without spending a mint. I'm thinking I might use the 3-D printer I have access to and print out a set.

Here it is:

Wow. I almost never say this, but you'd be better off restoring that bike than customizing (assuming that was the plan). The 160s are getting rare and EXPENSIVE.

Oh, and welcome to DTT!

Thanks VonYinzer
I wasn't planning on doing anything crazy to it. It's a beautiful bike. I might try to build some nicer wheels for it and take care of some other cosmetic things. I started a post on the bodywork page about making some sidecovers for it. I'm going to use it around town for the next couple years, then it will probably become my wife's bike when I find a replacement. It was a great find.

Super cool.. I used to live in Chatham county Savannah.. How is the ol SAV??

So far Savannah is alright. I moved here about a month ago from Portland, OR to earn my masters in Industrial Design at SCAD. I'm still getting used to it though.

Hey, another ID guy! Welcome to the fray. I only know of 1 other on this site. I have an ID degree from University of Illinois. I actually work with a couple guys from scad.

Cool!
I've been running my own bicycle fabrication shop for the last 7 years and now am trying to move on to design as a career. Have a look at some of the bikes on my website: http://www.signalcycles.com or tons of shop pictures on my flickr www.flickr.com/signalcycles page

That's awesome, your bikes are beautiful! Actually, almost the entire ID group in my office rides bikes (bicycles) and are very serious about them. Two of them compete. I had to share your site with them. They loved it and have heard of your stuff! :) Congrats man on what you've accomplished! What are your plans for your ID career?

My coworkers are interested in your bikes. We're in the Atlanta area. Are you setting up shop in Savannah?

Hey thanks!
I'm not setting up a shop here. With 2 young kids and school, I've got more than enough on my plate. My partner Nate is continuing the custom bike building back in Portland. I am managing the production of a few batch bikes from here, but my involvement in Signal is really taken a back seat to earning this degree.

My plan with ID is to get the formal skills that I am missing from SCAD and then see what options I have. Before deciding on school I tried finding design work in Portland (Adidas, Nike, Ziba) and it was pretty clear that I have great design connections and ideas, but need to learn how to present them better. So far SCAD has been pretty good. Solidworks is a lot of fun, and my studio class is full of opportunity to learn ID presentation skille

School is expensive, so I hope it will turn into a job in ID soon. If something came up before I finished, I'd rather work and learn than pay and learn.
