Clutch needs to be in. I've got a kz750 and I had electrical issues in the starter assembly housing as well, a member suggested going through my electrics with deoxit dn5, and that made a huge difference. Hope that helps!
Right on. Thanks. I am thinking of deleting that kill switch. My best guess is that the starter switch is bad. When I push the button in it really doesn't go in but it looks like it still makes contact.
I've never heard of that deoxit stuff, I'll look it up.
Clutch needs to be in..here is a helpful wiring diagram in COLOR!! I used this to get my Kz50 running and delete the extra crap. I plan on making a new wiring loom this winter to go bare bones wiring.
It' just a contact if I remember correctly so yea. Jump it out but make sure it's in neutral. KZ was actually easy to work on especially with the color diagram. The original intent was to chase the neutral light problem I was having, I ended up ripping out a bit extra like "reserve lighting" module and some other extra stuff.
Yea we are just trying to figure out the issues and get it running asap but we will probably wait until the spring and redo the whole shabang over the winter.
Update: The issue was the starter lock out switch in the clutch. It was either shorting out, old crusty wires or bad switch. Turned out to be a bad switch. Anyhow, soldered it up, eliminated the switch and everything is up and running now.
