Help Needed - Aftermarket levers and the clutch lever ratio

Been Around the Block
I bought the cheap universal levers from ASV for my XS750 project. After finally installing the cable and adjusting the reach, I realize that the pull ratio must be significantly different than the factory ratio. I have to extend the reach of the lever almost completely to get enough pull to fully disengage the clutch. I have searched and searched to find any info on lever ratios, and I can only find info relevant to modern Motocross bikes. CRG makes a clutch lever with an adjustable lever ratio, but it's a $200 part. Of course, I can switch back to factory levers, but then I'll have a pretty mismatched setup. My brake lever is a 2012 ZX6R Nissin perch with an ASV lever.

I guess the question is: Are there factory perches that I could swap an ASV lever into with similar lever ratio, or better aftermarket options? Below is a pic of the current lever set-up.

Are you sure you dont just need to adjust the clutch at the rod? MY XS850 was the same as yours...long pull on the handle...until i adjusted the clutch rod mechanism itself.

I followed the manual instructions. It says to have it touch, then back off a quarter turn. If I adjust it as such, then start taking out cable slack, I end up with a super long throw. The throw would be shorter if I put a little more tension on the rod, but then I'd be concerned about clutch slip. Am I thinking this through correctly?

I think your right. A little more tension may help. I always adjust my bikes closer than what the manual suggests. I like a nice crisp short throw on my clutch. I haven't had any issues yet.

BTW i also made up my own cables and took a little slack out there. That may also be why i dont have any issues.

I gave it another go. The throw is a little longer than I'd like, but I was able to use the manual setting and take the slack out with the adjuster screws. I was planning to make custom cables. I bought new motion pro cables to modify. The clutch cable is perfect, the throttle will definitely need to be trimmed by 10" or so.
