Help!

Hi All:

I could use some help. I have this project: http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=12691.70 that badly needs a headlight--a huge headlight. Thing is, it's a 6v bike. Ideally, I'll use a 7 or 8" 6v headlight, but those are hard to find. Please let me know if you are aware of one.

Alternatively, I could modify a CB360 or whatever headlight. Thing is, most of the ones I've found are sealed, meaning a 6v conversion would be challenging. Any thoughts on how I could do this?

Finally, please let me know if you have a good headlight and/or candidate available. I'm in the buying mood.

I also may have a nice 7" headlight, complete, that I can hook ya up with on the real cheap. Ill check when I get home from work to make sure its still in the garage.

Upon further research, it looks like I can convert to a 12v system pretty easily--like a $15 rectifier/regulator and a 12v battery. I'm not sure I want to go that route, but it does mean I can run an LED Titmouse taillight from Afterhours Choppers.

Evidently, 6v is pretty hard on the system. If I do go 12v, I am certainly interested in cast off headlights. Thanks Von!

If I go the Flugtechnik method, is it pretty easy to swap lenses into the bucket? I've never done it before.

I thought I could help. I have an 8" headlight shell out in the garage. Came of a BSA or something. Had it so long I forget the details. Unfortunately its basically the shell. No glass or bulb fittings.

I am by now means an expert but how will you charge a 12v battery with a 6v alternator or generator? Will coils/condensers need to be changed? Also is your system 6 volt positive or negative ground. Most 6 volt old cars/tractors I have worked on were POSITIVE ground. Just a few things to consider, btw build looks awesome!

Is there a specific reason you want to stay with 6 volt system--nostalgia, throwback, etc? If not, then I would do anything I could to get rid of it. Electrics since 1955 have been 12 volt, making any six volt items a PITA to work with. I converted my '54 Ford Customline to 12V for that reason, and enjoyed better lights and starts, and was then able to add any accessory I wanted to without resistor packs and the like. FWIW, but if you can change, I think you would be better served.
