Hey guys!

Love the site!

Recent purchase:

1973 BMW 60/5 600 cc

I plan on turning this airhead into a cafe style bike and would love (and will need) suggestions and guidance. Bit of a "barn find" and picked it up for $1400. Thinking of repainting the bike to black, its original color....

Anyway, I am totally stoked about this forum and look forward to getting advice and posting my progress!

Welcome to the site. You have a cherry bike i would not repaint that thing,it will loose value. just polish your hubs up and maybe powder coat the rims black. Just my opinion any one think i am wrong then just shoot me down.

Thanks guys! Hopefully I will have some more pics up soon. Is there much of an "airhead" group on DTT?

radness,. welcome from central cali. where we are no freezing like vonyinzer. hahaha sucka! freeze freeze freeze.. jk jk.

Damn! Lots of SoCal people on here 8) I should have the bike out here (SD) within a couple weeks. I am having shipped from my hometown in Indiana (I'm a hoosier at heart). First things first... getting rid of that goofy bag on the front forks and then replacing that seat. Any of you guys use Corbin seats? I am thinking of getting the "Gunslinger". Here is a pic of the Corbin seat on a BMW "toaster" airhead. Would like to end up with something like this or the one below (more racer style).

Opinions??

Welcome, J!
That's a heck of a nice bike you've got there. Should be an interesting build to follow, especially since I don't think I seen very many Beemers on the Forum....even scanning back through builds from the past. I think you will find lots of help here if you need it......as far as BMWs go you may end up helping us.
Thanks for joining and good luck with your bike.

Lookin' good! I'm currently on the hunt for a late 70's early 80's R to replace my CB750, but in the meantime I'd love to get out there and ride with ya! I'm in Encinitas. Shoot me a PM and we'll make it happen.

Thanks man. There have been a couple cool late 70's airheads on SD craigslist the past few weeks. I remember a pretty bad-ass R75...

The bike is taking some time getting out here. Suppose to be picked up next week, but when it gets out here we should hit the road for sure!

Corbin seats are nice, but PRICEY! You could have a local upholstery shop make you one for half the price using the stock pan I bet.

If you havent thrown the tool roll on the forks away, lemme know. Ill send ya some money for her.

Amen to what Von says re the Corbin seats! I've had two......one on a Honda Blackbird and the other on a Yamaha FJ1200........The Blackbird was good....the Yamaha was the pits......a lot of people find Corbins to be as hard as a rock, and they stay that way for quite awhile[my Yamaha]! If you have a good local upholstery shop, I would definitely check that out....have them put a gel pad in the foam, you will love it......Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I know the seat that is currently on the bike is a Corbin. I might go with a fiberglass tail and have a local shop do the seat. I found this custom fiberglass for $225. http://www.caferace.com/cafeseat.html

I really like the look of the tail/seat and like having a BMW emblem on the tail section. What you guys think?
