Hi from Orange Country CA - What bike should I get?

Dick

Been Around the Block
So I'm a long time rider (mostly crotch rockets) but looking to get back on a bike as its been a solid decade since I last owned one. I've always loved the cafe style and want to jump on in. I see that Honda CB's seem to be the bike of choice to fix up, but are there any others that work well to "cafe out"?

depending on which you want to go: older Japaneses bikes are a-plenty. The prices are right...On the other hand, you can't go wrong with a Thrux or a bonnie...

I'd stick with Japanese but that's me. I'm in Ladera Ranch or MV area. I'm working on getting my 69 CB 175 back on the road. Great riding in this area. Let me know if you need a hand with anything.

Yeah I was thinking a Japanese bike might be my best bet to start with as I'm really on a budget to. I love the Triumphs mentioned but they seem to run a bit higher than the older Japanese ones.

Are there in Kawasaki's or Yamaha's or even Suzuki's that guys cafe?

Yeah thanks ZeroChrome, I may take you up on that!

LOL. Yeah the Thruxton is pretty much the bike I would buy if I were buying brand new. No doubt about that!

But I'm looking more to start with $2,000 on a used bike and build it up from there. I have ZERO mechanical skills though so I'm hoping that the $2k will be all towards a good running engine. I can do the cosmetic type stuff ya know? Damn I wish I could do more mechanical stuff though cause most on Craigslist need some type of engine work....or rusted out.

Hey I'm from hb too, just started this site. About to pick up a 78 yamaha xs750 pretty soon, first bike going to cafe. Let me know if you need an extra hand. 8)

I do agree that the Thrux would be awesome. Nice 'turn key' type of cafe. But I have shit for credit and certainly dont have that type of case...plus I'm really enticed by the idea of buying an oldy and tweaking it into a cafe!

Thanks man! I'd love to pop in and check yours out sometime! I was actually looking at Yamaha XS models too. Seems like they're ripe for the tweaking!

For 2k you should be able to find a perfectly good running bike. Triumphs are great, but you WILL spend more to fix one up. Thats a fact. Old japanese bikes are USUALLY cheaper, but not all of them. Look for a decent xs650, or cb450, 500, etc... Old Yamaha and Suzuki 2strokes are great too. T250, T500, and RD model...

Oh perfect! Thanks for the tips! I might be wanting a bigger sized one though....lots of freeway driving out here. :/
