Hip, or Hipster...You Decide...

The fixation with what is and what isn't hipster around here is truly disturbing. ::)

I think there's an extrapolation we can make with the data we have so far but I'm afraid of the outcome. Anyway, I have to go back to my shop, I mean garage, where I will put on my stocking cap with my beard and drink fresh ground French pressed coffee and work on my old bikes while listening to obscure hip hop

It's a CL.
When I started drinking PBR, it was 12 bucks a case, It's almost 19.00 a case now. This is the time frame of 5 years. Yea, im a cheap ass.

I thought the video was pretty neat. Thats all...I dont give a rats ass who made it or why. Its nice and interesting and artsy enough to keep you watching. I think who ever is responsible for the set up, shots and editing did a good job.

You can all come to my shop near Chicago off of Rt 66 and hang out any time. There will be no PBR, but plenty of other liquor. Sadly, I do not have any tee-shirts to sell, but feel free to stand next to my propane and kerosene heaters while we party in my un-insulated 540 sq ft garage. I have plenty of tools for everyone, and four bikes to work on. The only CB I have is a 750. Am I a hipster? What is a hipster anyway?

The video was nicely done, but I would rather see more of the bikes.

The video needed less snow covered cars, shots of drinking coffee and more bike bike building. I did enjoy the shot of all the gas tanks tho.

I like where you corrected them andrew8675309 "its a cl"

shit sorry i thought you just had a shitty bike i didnt know you had a ultra rare shitty street and trail bike.

Tell ya what. you keep it and ill make fun of it, its the natural order of things. who are we to play god!

While the video is really well produced, I wish they has a little something to say about themselves. Yeah I get that they're waiting out winter, and it's basically an ad for their shop, but in comparison to videos like this...

<a href="http://vimeo.com/49943437">The Garage Company - Boys Need A Garage</a>

or this...

<a href="http://vimeo.com/67737654">The Spare Parts Company</a>

The guy in the Guzzi video is probably pretty cool, but I will never know, because I had a nap come on pretty heavy about a minute in.

Well, I'd kill for the shop first of all :) Makes me want to put a woodstove in my garage, which perhaps I will if I can ever find room for one.

Let's not start a raging 'hipster' discussion, but I will admit to growing tired of the highly produced, short vignette videos that seem to be permeating our lives. Seriously - you have a nice little shop, the opportunity to work on your bikes etc. If you want to share that with the world, at least have it add some value - like show me how to fix something.

That was a commercial for their shop / website. Sadly 100x more t-shirts for sale on their site than anything else, which seems to be the formula. Rent a garage, wrench on a few bikes, shoot a video and sell t-shirts.

that was enough for me not to even open the vid, sick of all of it, or maybe we should all produce our own tees and flood the market.

The Spare Parts Company is a good shop. Small, and pretty much just repair and restoration. They don't do any custom work or painting in house. Their shop is too small for that. I drink beer every Tuesday at our "Two Wheel Tuesday" gathering with one of the guys who works there. The Spare Parts Company is a serious motorcycle shop, and the people there make their living working on motorcycles.

The Cast and Salvage guys are hobbyists and enthusiasts who occasionally work on other people's bikes. They make a few bucks at it, probably.

An intern I had working for me last year was really impressed by them, based on their Web site. So, I looked at the site. Seemed interesting. Then I looked at the Google Maps street view, and it made me laugh. I just looked at it again this morning. The graffiti on the wall across the street from them has been painted over, and the pile of trash on the sidewalk has been hauled away, but it's still a street that many of my customers wouldn't ride their bikes to.

I find it amusing that they have such a nicely designed Web site, and a really cool video, but their shop is tiny and rudimentary. There is some artistic potential there, I have to admit, if they ever get themselves into a decent shop space.

I can tell you all their typography is very hipster. The vintage American Optical safety glasses offered on their site are pretty cool.
